Schwinn Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Hello again, Here are a few pics of my KA 50 pit. I am using TriggerHappy's schematics for most of the dimensions. I tried to make a wooden seat using the guess technique; however, that did not turn out so well. I think I am going to use a car seat for comfort reasons. If you have any ideas or suggestions please feel free to fire away! :joystick: Pedestal (the start) Pedestal with the cyclic roughed in. Pedestal and front instrument panel with the cyclic mounted I did some multi monitor testing to see how they worked. I am planning on putting the 22" Acer to the right behind the panel and using my projector on a 82" widescreen for the main picture. 1
Schwinn Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 Here is something I dug up. I am going to refinish it white. Its an SPH-5 helicopter helmet courtesy of my pilot buddy. He bought it but his head was to big to fit it...literally LOL.
JG14_Smil Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 very clean basement :) I am using a car seat and would reccommend it. Can you tell more about your projector when you get the time?
Schwinn Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 It's a costco special paid about 1000.00 Cad including a 82" screen. The model is Epson EMP -TW20. If it does not function with the sim very well I am going to buy a new one that does high resolutions.
Schwinn Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 Right after you asked me that I went surfing...and well I guess I am going to buy a new projector LOL Epson EMP -TW20 Good: Good entry-level home cinema projector Bad: Not so good for games projection
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Take that with a grain of salt man, I play on an office class projector and it works great other than the limitation of 1024X768. Works great for movies and games though it could be better. If you want the best projector you can absolutely get it but if your just looking for something to watch movies on and play games most projectors fit that bill! http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
Schwinn Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 I am going to try it first. If for some reason it doesn't work I will replace it. I can't remember for sure but I think it is 800x600 or 640x480...might be a tad to small to game on.
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Definitely want at least 1024X768 IMHO! Edit: Personally I'm looking to upgrade to higher res. but for now the current proj. is more than adequate! http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
Schwinn Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 Yeah I was looking at this one InFocus X10 DLP Home Theater - 1080p, 1200 Lumens, 2500:1, HDMI, , 14.1 Lbs Resolution: 1920 x 1080 http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4490483&CatId=1755

HitchHikingFlatlander Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Read up on it and any proj. you look at and try and get as much info as to make an informed purchase. That proj. you linked looks nice but remember that proj.s are like TVs and sometimes the market gets flooded and like TVs not all are the same. So just some advice to do your homework! http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
Schwinn Posted May 26, 2009 Author Posted May 26, 2009 A quick update. I have started the collective. I am trying to use some old CH Products sticks I had laying around. The cyclic is a CH Products Force FX force feedback stick and the collective is a Flightstick Pro. At a later date I might try to make a stick from scratch.
Schwinn Posted May 26, 2009 Author Posted May 26, 2009 Eeeep!!! I put a pic of my wife in her wedding dress on the web. I hope she doesn't troll flight sim boards!!!
Total Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Correction - The pic of your wife in her wedding dress is not only underneath some cables, but is ON THE FLOOR!! THAT is what she'll freak about LOL!!!!!
Schwinn Posted May 26, 2009 Author Posted May 26, 2009 I had to make room for my second monitor...so I said sorry sweetie you gotta go!!! To which she replied go stand behind our truck please =) On a side note she just finished her Nursing degree at university and one of the deals was I can retrain when she is done. She asked me last night what I wanted to do and I said I am not sure. She said what about becoming a helicopter pilot....have I mentioned I love her =)

Schwinn Posted May 27, 2009 Author Posted May 27, 2009 So I emailed my boss about any used 10" to 15" LCD's they had with damaged parts on them thinking I could use one or two of them for my pit and he offers me a 15" LCD touchscreen. I asked him how much and he said its yours if you want it. Obviously I said yes but I am not sure how to integrate it into the cockpit or if I even will.

Oh, you could probably find a use for it somewhere, and if you cant; send it too me and I'll use it!!!
Schwinn Posted June 22, 2009 Author Posted June 22, 2009 (edited) Not alot but a little progress Things have been slow going lately. Apparently putting your wife through university is quite expensive. At any rate here are a few things I have done. I am going to use my FLightstick Pro as the cyclic as it is the one that closely resembles the KA50 cyclic. If you notice I have added a CV joint boot to the base of the stick. Unfortunatley the room it is in is fairly small so it is really hard to get good photos that encompass everything =) Here is the projector screen. I know I am really close to it but there is no room to sit farther back. Being that I am 37 feeling like I am going on 60 this distance suits me just fine. Here is a close up of the start of my collective (the switches and buttons are sitting inside the box atm as I haven't had time to install them). Not as high fidelity as Triggers but this is revision 1. Revision 2 will be when my wife gets a few paychecks and she buys me a CNC router. I have made a decision to build this cockpit out of metal as well. My son is a welder and I never thought to tap into that resource =). He seemed pretty excited at the idea that he could help me do this. So at the end of this month I am buying a metal break (bender) and an electric nibbler. JG14_Smil Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 looking great! I really enjoy seeing all the cockpits being made. I should have some new pics pretty soon. smil
Schwinn Posted June 23, 2009 Author Posted June 23, 2009 Lol wow that seat is really dirty. i didn't really notice until I took the picture and light hit it. I am not sure whether to get a seat cover or just buy a new seat from a trucking repair shop.
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Nah man steam clean it and get some sheepskin covers...... Awesome stuff man good luck. I sit close to the proj. screen too, it wont give you seizures! http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
