Mr_Burns Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Hey all, I played Lock On when it first came out, got really into it but my PC was a bit pants at the time and I had got into some other things not on PC. Anyway, I upgraded the PC last month and a triple monitor setup and Black Shark and getting ready for ARMA2 or Flashpoint 2 - I think the community for flashpoint and Arma was awesome keeping the games fresh for years as the sentiments in here acknowledge the modders in the sticky. Without being banned from here, Black Shark is probably a tad hardcore for me, I do like it but I love cutting through the valleys in the F-15 on the patrol the Caucuses mission, fast and low. So anyway, im trying to bring upto date my knowledge on where we are at with Lock On and have a couple of questions. What changed with Lock On, when it first came out I thought it couldnt be modded. How can you now make all these additions? Most important to me, are all the mods only compatible with lock on + flaming cliffs because I dont have flaming cliffs and I cant buy it in hard copy and I dont trust my crap internet connection (although if they are, i'll give the download a go). I had a hard drive full of movies, games and content with decent fast internet in the UK with no caps or limits, then I moved to australia and got landed with a sht slow optus that charges the earth for going over the limits - its like going back to dial up. Cant play online and cant download without taking a hit. And then the snakes and spiders....dont get me started on the car drivers....whineging pom, who me?
104th_Crunch Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Welcome back Mr Burns. Excellent. You can buy Flaming Cliffs download or hardcopy for $15 US here http://lockon.co.uk/index.php?lang=en So there is really no excuse not to grab it. I don't think anything changed really with Lock On. Just that people found ways around many things. Some mods are compatible with LO without Flaming Cliffs, others are not. You have to try it or see if their is compatibility info in the download. The best place for downloads is www.lockonfiles.com
crazyeddie Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Welcome back "Whinging Pom". Load Lock On, then Flaming Cliffs, then the FC Patch that goes with the LFC Version you buy. In that order. Make sure you use the right patch, that's important. Use Modman to load add on's and Lock On Pylon Editor to change loadouts if that's your thing ... and orft you go. Loads of add on's available now on the site Crunch gave you, some better than others, play around with them to find the ones you like. Just about everything that can be done has been done, new models, tons on new skins, things to improve frame rates, things to help the gaming experience along, the only thing we cannot get past is the hard coded stuff and no likelyhood of that in the near or distant future, so what is out there is all there is for now. Aussie National Anthem - Under the Southern Cross I stand, Ball and Chain in my hand, symbol of the promised land - Australia ... always a good ditty to start a conversation with in Aus - Try it !!!!
52niner Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 I'm also back after a long break. It's good to be flying again, still a great sim. I have a quick question. Before I start loading mods and such is there anything I need to stay away from in installing that would prevent me from being able to play online? Is there like a standard must have lock on flaming cliffs ? If I have the new f-15 installed and the server does not will it boot me? Thanks for any help on getting my installation up to par.
Mr_Burns Posted May 26, 2009 Author Posted May 26, 2009 Thanks for the welcome guys, I called Optus yesterday to complain and they were talking about the area of Adelaide being too 'busy' - bloody technology black hole!! Anyway I decided I would suck it up and to buy on line and download it so I will be flaming cliffed this weekend and then looking forward to the mods.
