T24_Martin Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 (edited) I am using an OG Crystal with a 4090 and 7800x3d. Until Pimax Play 1.33 I was using OpenXR toolkit PimaxXR Quad Views Foveated 1.1.3 Quad Views Companion to get Quad Views running in DCS. Never had a Problem. With Pimax Play 1.33 I switched to native Pimax OpenXR and the native Quad Views in Pimax Play. Of course I uninstalled all four programs above. It used to work well, but when I fired up DCS the nextr day I went from 90 FPS to 35 FPS and the performance graph shows GPU and CPU sikes all over! Before it was a smooth line with the latest DCS update. I tried a lot of things with BIGNEWY on the DCS side, but nothing works. I am not using tacview and OpenXR-API-Layers shows no other APIs or failures. The only solution is... delete the PIMAX folder in user/appdata/local re-start PC and recalibrate eye-tracking. Although eye tracking was working perfectly and showed no error, this brings back 90FPS and a smooth GPU/CPU graph. One time during a long session (maybe two hours in DCS) it stoped working during play. It was as if the high resolution area could not keep up with my eyes and was kind of laggy... in the multiple seconds range. Could someone from Pimax please assist? This is definetly not a smooth experience! Several re-installs of Pimax Play and prior deletion of all Pimax leftovers did not have success. After a whole it stopps working and I have to delete the folder in appdata again. PS: I did already exclude all Pimax and DCS folder from microsoft defender and I am not using any other anto virus tools. Attached are screenshots with 90FPS and alost in the 30FPS range with crazy CPU/GPU spikes... bad quality, but you see my point. Edited October 6, 2024 by T24_Martin
Calvin.Pimax Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 Hi, Thank you for the feedback. Seems like the performance loss was due to running the game through the Pimax OpenXR runtime compared to using PimaxXR along with other applications. The development team is currently investigating this issue and working hard to fix the bugs, aiming to ensure that performance meets expectations. Could you please export the log files and send them to calvin.yau@pimax.com? I’m sure the development team would appreciate this information for further analysis.

I'll be following this thread, because your notes have scared me away from trying to get my PCL working again and going to the latest version of PP. Really a crazy amount of variability in experiences.

Really a crazy amount of variability in experiences. No need to be scared. Since I own my Crystal I had some trouble, but always help from Pimax or the community. And do be honest I am more then happy, that Pimax integrates more and more features in Pimax Play! I saw a thread where they mention to use the PimaxXR app until Pimax figures what is wrong with their Pimax OpenXR runtime. All in all the best headset I can imagine right now. Not flawless, but if I am into DCS, IL-2 or Star Wars Squadrons the visuals blow me away.

Can't delete the folder, it says the folder is in use, but I've turn off pimax and even deleted pimax runtime from task manager, and it still won't let me delete the folder The problem is that something call piservices and piserver is running, and even if I close them in task managder they pop up again in seconds stopping me from delteting the folder Edited October 11, 2024 by Gunfreak i7 13700k @5.2ghz, GTX 5090 OC, 128Gig ram 4800mhz DDR5, M2 drive.

I just close Pimax Play. It stays in the task bar when I just close it. Close it in the task bar (bottom right corner of win) then I can delete Pimax Play folder with no issues.
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted October 11, 2024 ED Team Posted October 11, 2024 Not sure if you have seen this tool but it inspects what openXR layers are in use, helped me when I was having issues. https://github.com/fredemmott/OpenXR-API-Layers-GUI/releases/latest Forum rules - DCS Crashing? T24_Martin Posted October 11, 2024 Author Posted October 11, 2024 You could also try the PimaxXR application instead of Pimax OpenXR until the Devs from Pimax figure what causes the issue.

However it didn't fix anything, I re calibrated eye tracking and still bad preformance i7 13700k @5.2ghz, GTX 5090 OC, 128Gig ram 4800mhz DDR5, M2 drive.
T24_Martin Posted October 11, 2024 Author Posted October 11, 2024 Sorry to hear! For me it fixed it. What about PimaxXR?

With Pimax Play lower then 1.33 (or 1.32 beta) you need four separate programmes: OpenXR toolkit PimaxXR Quad Views Foveated 1.1.3 Quad Views Companion With the latest Pimax Play you need none of these. And can disabled or delete all four. In Pimax Play set to use Pimax OpenXR as runtime. This replaces the separate PimaxXR programme. For Quad Views you need to set Quad Views also in Pimax Play (in game settings). This replaces Quad Views Foveated 1.1.3. OpenXR toolkit is not compatible anymore with this combination and I am not sure of the companion app. So currently I am not running any of the extra tools. All directly from Pimax Play. If I understand it correctly the OpenXR runtime in Pimax Play can still cause some problems. If you experience this you could switch back to the external PimaxXR as runtime. Or like I did, deleted the Pimax Play folder. Best! Edited October 13, 2024 by T24_Martin

Does the Pimax Play Quadview have the same option as the original one. With ability to adjust resolution, size of high resolution window etc? i7 13700k @5.2ghz, GTX 5090 OC, 128Gig ram 4800mhz DDR5, M2 drive.
T24_Martin Posted October 13, 2024 Author Posted October 13, 2024 If you want, you can directly download Pimax Play 1.33 and just install the latest version. It is not as detailed as wthe Quad Views Companion. You can just select Performance, Balanced or Quality.
jambo999 Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 Also in DCS make sure to enable eye tracking and Quad views under the VR options TAB. I think this is new. Don't remember ever seeing it before.
T24_Martin Posted December 11, 2024 Author Posted December 11, 2024 Yeah! I did that already. Still the same. Whenever DCS gets an update, I have to delete Pimax Play folder in Appdata and recalibrate eye tracking. Then it is fine again until the next update of DCS... strange!
T24_Martin Posted January 28 Author Posted January 28 @Calvin.Pimax, I still have this issue. From time to time and after every DCS update I have to delete Pimax folder in AppData and recalibrate eye tracking. Than it works again flawlessly. Any Idea? I don't want to switch back to PimaxXR, Quad Views Foveated 1.1.3 and Quad Views Companion. Best Martin
Calvin.Pimax Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Hi Martin, Let me report this to the dev team. They’ll try to replicate the issue and investigate the log files to determine why the eye-tracking data is not being saved.
T24_Martin Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 Thanks Calvin, Just let me know what they need.
Calvin.Pimax Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Hey @T24_Martin We've tried to replicate the issue, but haven't been able to reproduce it. I’ll report this to the DCS QA team to see if they have any insights.
T24_Martin Posted February 6 Author Posted February 6 @Calvin.Pimax thank you! I had three days without any issues and today it happened again. I have not found any systematic behind this.
Calvin.Pimax Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Understood. I'll ask the team to run another test to check for any unusual behavior in the eye-tracking data logs.
