hannibal Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 (edited) quest pro user here with 7800x3d and 4090... also quest 3 user with 5800x3d and 2080ti after reformatting PC, i have learned a bunch of things out of the pain and suffering of reformat and reinstall with help from sleighzy from DCS4VR discord forums i discovered i was using quad views wrong (i thought having QV companion was enough) as of date i do the following. removed OpenXR Tool kit (or uncheck it for DCS) install @mbucchia quad views. install quad views companion set meta quest link PC app for desired refresh rate (90hz for Qpro/4090 and 80hz for Q3) AND manual sampling at 1.0 in DCS i set pixel density to 1.0 and quad views check on (gaze set for Qpro only after having eye tracking on in QPro and enable experimental app track on the meta link PC app ) here is where the my discussion of spotting planes begins. when i set sampling at 200 on the QV companion app, looks amazing in VR, but it is so hard to see a plane near you even 3-4 miles out but when i set it to 100-150, then i can see planes further away much better. i share my thoughts because i see a bunch of ppl complaining about seeing, spotting dots.. spotting in general. not here to tell ED to re-do the whole rendering situation (ive read its not ideal, i dont have much complaints for myself) but with so many VR headsets, PC systems, and associate settings.. i write this to try to narrow down what it is that others do, to maybe help ED with the whole spotting situation... TL DR, if having problems seeing small things, try to not super sample too much.. (this happen to be before and after the whole spotting dots adjustment patch) Edited October 7, 2024 by hannibal find me on steam! username: Hannibal_A101A http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969447179
VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 (edited) You mean the Foveate resolution when you talk about "sampling", right? I think I am having the default of 200... Also, without QVFR, the spotting dots are not any better either... Edited October 7, 2024 by VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants I Fly, Therefore I Am. Nevermind the spotting dots.. is it worse or better to see aircraft of from a distance if u go higher on the foveated Btw on my qv companion, when I select default, it is 100 for mine, not 200 Edited October 7, 2024 by hannibal find me on steam! username: Hannibal_A101A http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969447179
VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 Just a humble QPro via VD, so the mileage varies. The "QV Default" is 121, I think I better change it to 100 and see what happens. I Fly, Therefore I Am. One cannot go around not saying "Thank you" every time these days, can't you? If using quad views, that's where to do it.. but if your using virtual desktop.. it's probably super sampling as well.. I think u should try to get the virtual desktop not to super sample...else VD is multiplying and also QV is multiplying pixels I'll try to look at virtual desktop again also.. just like how things are going on link cable! VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 VD does not directly link cable if my understanding is correct. I use dedicated WiFi router for the use of VD. I do not turn on any super sampling or ASW. To clarify further, this is the setting.cfg for QVFR: [VirtualDesktopXR] horizontal_focus_section=0.3 vertical_focus_section=0.3 peripheral_multiplier=0.4 focus_multiplier=1.0 debug_eye_gaze=0 debug_focus_view=0 So for the sampling, it would be the parameter "focus_multiplier". Phantom711 Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 (edited) Depending on which preset you are using (i.e. Ultra, Godlike etc), of course VD is supersampling. As long as you know it, you can then adjust the respective settings in QV. Edited October 7, 2024 by Phantom711 1 vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Join the vCVW-17 Discord.

VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 Oh, I just want to ask and confirm about the "focus_multiplier" thing. May be I should quote this instead for easier conversation: [Oculus] horizontal_focus_section=0.3 vertical_focus_section=0.3 peripheral_multiplier=0.4 focus_multiplier=1 debug_eye_gaze=0 debug_focus_view=0 I Fly, Therefore I Am. hannibal Posted October 8, 2024 Author Posted October 8, 2024 I don't know what virtual desktop does exactly for getting the video out to hmd so I have no comment. find me on steam! username: Hannibal_A101A http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969447179

ackattacker Posted October 19, 2024 Posted October 19, 2024 Unfortunately the reality of the situation is that the closer VR is to real life the harder it is to spot. Because spotting in real life is hard. Low res VR and flat screen has an advantage because a plane far away is one pixel, and its a big easy to see pixel.
