Victor3 Posted October 25, 2024 Posted October 25, 2024 So the last few weeks I've been having an issue with lasing from the TGP. It seems to be going in and out of INR way to often causing me to not be able to fire the laser. I assume that being in INR would prevent the laser from firing, but it is happening when I have a clear view of the target. It seems like the allowed angle is no more than 45 degrees either side of being nose on. A few days ago it happened when myself and another A-10cii were trying to buddy lase for each other and we are both losing the ability to fire the laser continuously. I have a track, but it is way to long, so I will make a new one and add it. That should be correct. The TGP doesn't necessarily "know" whether there's a clear line of sight, plus the laser and the CCD aren't located in the exact same spot. All of that means that the laser won't fire when there's a risk of lasing your own jet, or your external stores. In order to account for what's actually loaded on the pylons, there are different masking shapes - but in DCS, we've historically only ever had one of them (M4), which means even with nothing loaded on adjacent pylons, the TGP might still indicate being masked with the "M" indication, and might drop from AREA or POINT track down to the inertial INR A or INR P. All that said, I've heard from quite a few players who feel that masking is now more prevalent than it used to be in DCS, so maybe something changed and the masking shape is more prohibitive than it used to be - I'm not sure whether or not that's the case. Either way, you should experiment with masking and try to fly such that you know when to expect and how to avoid it, particularly when lasing weapons.
ASAP Posted October 26, 2024 Posted October 26, 2024 It would be great if we could actually display the laser mask zone like in the real aircraft and use the SA cue to stay out of it. 1

That makes sense, I agree that it seems like the masking has been changed and is now too restrictive. Hopefully it will get updated soon. 1 Aorus Z370 Ultra Gaming WiFi MB | i7-8700k @ 4.9 GHz | EVGA GTX 1070 Ti | 32 GB CORSAIR Vengeance 3000 MHz DDR4 Ram | Corsair H100 Pro Cooler | RaidMax TX 850M PS | Samsung 970 Evo Plus M.2 NVMe SSD |TM Warthog Hotas w/ F/A-18 Hornet grip | Corsair Gamer 570x Crystal Case | Oculus Rift S DCS | AV8B | F18C | F-16C | A10C | Mig 29 | F15 | SA-342 | Huey | Persian Gulf | NTTR | Combined Arms
DOG Posted February 7 Posted February 7 this was not like that in the past, this started happening to me some patches ago, the TGP wont allow you to do point track or lase when the TGP is looking to the sides it would be important to tell people if this is a change that was made to the aircraft to make it more realistic or just a bug that has been slipping out of side patch after patch.
