Possible bugs (or mistakes on my part)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I recently ran a trial for the FW190 A8 and I very much enjoyed this nice little plane.

I had two little problems though, might be me or the fact, that this plane hasn't gotten a lot of love in recent years.

The first one is my artificial horizon. If I do a cold start it never really calibrates correctly.

For engine start I only use the relevant circuit breakers (not all, like in the Chucks Guide, god bless this man)

and activate the rest, when the engine is warming up.

It is always slightly off, it seems to me like a mistake on my part. Is there a trick to it?

The second one is serious, whenever I take-off my Comm menu stops working.

It works on the ground but right after take-off I can't get it to work, the menu just stops working.

I tried different key bindings, easy comms are off.

Thanks in advance to all the Butcher lovers!

Kind regards,

Booka42

Art horizon is bugged across all warbirds.

About comms, there are 2 different ways and 2 different buttons to communicate with ground crew. 1st is by simply talking to the guy you need your cannopy being open and you need to be on the ground. This way does not work when cannopy is closed at least it supposed to be like that and if you are airborne. 2nd way is to talk through radio, you need your radio to be powered and set up and you need to use button responsible for radio coms. Some planes may have 2 radio channels as so there will be 2 different buttons for radio coms or switch selector.

Thank you for your answer!

This art horizon thing is kinda sad, but good to know.

Radio is working on the ground and I know how to use it, it just stops working when I'm in the air - maybe a bug too, who knows.

Edit: You know the two relevant buttons for the FW190 A8 (if there are two)? COMM Communication Menu is the one I'm currently using.

1) You can reset attitude indicator by rotating the ring around it (it will cage and uncage the instrument, click and drag LMB to do that);

2) In all aircraft in DCS, when realistic comms is enabled, communication command ("\" by default) = shouting out of the cockpit, while PTT push-to-talk command ("RAlt + \" by default) = using actual radio. The latter might be called slightly different in different airplanes and helicopters, but that's the one you need to bind to your joystick and use after takeoff. Keep in mind that radio will have to be turned on in the cockpit and channels will have to be pre-set in mission editor correctly.

Thank you, I'll try that radio thing. I also tried resetting th CB and caging/unaging the art horizon, it is still not working right for me.

After an engine start I activate the CB for the artificial horizon and after a while I uncage it. It takes some time to calibrate (which is great and very realistic) and then it shows my attitude, but not correctly. It is always slightly off and not horizontal. This doesn't happen when you do a hot start, then it's fine.

I have like 40 hours in the Anton, I can take off and land kinda okay, but it is quite possible that I do something wrong here. I just can't figure out what it is. I read everything I could find and watched videos - to no avail.

in my 3 years of flying A8 the horizon never re-calibrates itself to a horizontal position. I have to level out the ac, cage/uncage it to get it back to normal. At some point I even stopped using it altogether, I simply rely on the ball/slip indicator to fly through the weather/clouds, etc.

Bugs, my friend. DCS WW2 is full of them. ED fixes some of them about twice a year (or less), and you never know which ones they will attempt fix next. The recent patch 'fixed' the double braking in WW2 birds, but broke the altimeter in Dora D9. A patch from July introduced a high resolution cockpit for A8, but at the same time introduced some jarring flickering in VR when looking sideways. Etc. Etc. Etc. You're not doing anything wrong.

Alright got it, thx my man, that's what I suspected.

WW2 seems to be the the red-headed stepchild of DCS. I own 10+ modules already and was seriously considering buying the Anton, Normandy and the WW2 asset pack. That would be around 140$ or 130 EUR mind you.

That's kind of steep if you consider the current state of the weather modelling, AI, ATC and all the other open wounds of DCS.

Thanks for all your help guys, I'm waiting for a big patch and a sale.

roger, I still recommend you get the Anton, it's a truly unique bird in ED's arsenal, specifically if for A2G action. It's extremely survivable, more so than P47, the argument may be due to the difference in their engine modeling, and it also packs a serious punch as far as the guns go. Flying it in MP and succeeding feels like an actual achievement. 😄
