I just got a new PC and installed DCS on it. I have backed up a lot of settings and stuff from my old DCS install. However I can't figure out where all the keybinds were saved.

Are they:

  • C:\Users\<user>\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config\Input
  • C:\Users\<user>\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\InputUserProfiles

Or somewhere else? I want to load them all back in to my sim. I know I have to do this one by one, so just need to know where to look.

All your peripherals will have a new GUID, so all of the files needs to be renamed. It's very easy with PowerRenamer from PowerTools.
Tell us when you have copied over the files, and we'll help you to sort it out if you need it.
Cheers!

I'm used to it at this point, feel like I'm changing PCs every year! Can't count how many times I've had to reload all my configs. When I fly a particular module, I just go into the control config in the sim and load the keyboard, joystick, and throttle. It only takes 30 seconds or so, the trick is to know which config file to load as there are many spread over many different folders in both SavedGames and the main DCSOpenBeta folder. It gets confusing!

Config/input and under the appropriate aircraft.

i thought so too, but my latest keyboard mappings weren't saved in the CH-47F folder in the config directory. not sure where they are saved. then there's the InputUserProfiles profiles which also have keybindings.

That's why a rename tool is very handy. Had to do it myself a couple of days ago when my collective changed GUID. Took like a minute to change fix all my modules. No need to bother with going into every module to load the old files. No confusion whatsoever.

How does PowerRenamer know what all new GUIDs are and in what order the old files need to be renamed? Just curious, as I've never used it.

What I did. I changed one single button on my collective to force a new diff written, to catch the new file name. Then I searched for the old file name in the input folder in File Explorer. Selected all the matches, right clicked and chose open in PowerRenamer. (Shell extension is added when you install PowerTools).
In PowerRenamer's "search for" field, I pasted the old file name, and in the "replace with" field, the new file name. "Apply". That's it. 20 or so old working profiles.
Of course these steps needs to be repeated for every peripheral. But it's way quicker than importing old files in each module for each an every peripheral.
I would guess it's a five minutes job for me, with 10+ peripherals and every DCS module.
Cheers!

Rgr that, I see. I thought you figured out some clever way to avoid creating temporary diff.luas and extracting this info straight from Windows.

It means, however, that it's not "one minute job" when we add installing new tool, learning how it works (If it's uknown app like for me), launching the game, making temporary assignments, exiting, browsing, copy-pasting the names etc.

I'd argue importing-profile method can still be easier and faster. I'm sure it's definitely faster on my PC, but I only have 6 devices to map and own a dozen of aircraft or so. Your method might indeed be better for guys who have all of them.

There's probably a way, 😉

I meant for that single device.
Exiting? Alt-tab is your friend, Or did you mean exiting DCS? Which is not necessary. Quite a lot of stiff can be done without exiting DCS. Kneeboards for instance, can even be added while flying.

Of course. My case: 10+ devices, 93 modules it's a no-brainer. 😁

A bit late, but this scenario is exactly why I wrote a script to do it automagically in a few clicks: more info in this thread

Oooh since when? I remember having to restart DCS for the new images to be detected, so switched to OpenKneeboard

You can do it without exiting DCS, but my experience this weekend (I was messing with kneeboards trying to get stuff out of way the elastic on the leg kneeboard in game) you can't change a plane specific kneeboard while you're in flight.

Really? Then I'm mistaken or things have changed. I could swear I was able to change pngs mid flight. While there was one caveat. You had to browse back and forth for the game to pick them up, which can be a little tedious. I easily solved it by deleting the default ones.

By "browse back and forth" you mean change between pages?  I tried that and made sure I was off the one I was changing before I changed it.

Yup! Exactly! That doesn't work any more? That's sad.
