When sitting on the deck of the carrier, the inside of the cockpit is not being globally illuminated by the aircraft carrier deck lighting.  The outside of the aircraft is, but inside the cockpit, the dashes and everything are pitch black.

Any word on getting ray-tracing lighting in DCS? Is it already?  If so, am I missing something with having no illumination show on the cockpit dash or panels?

*Edit - Yes, Global Illumination is ON.  But the aircraft carrier deck lighting, lighting from airfields and runways do not affect the inside of the cockpit.  So - its only global Illum for the sun, from what I can tell.

If my plane spawns beneath a lamp on the tarmac - the lamp lights up my aircraft exterior, but doesn't illuminate any interior cockpit areas.

I don't think you're understanding what GI really is.
Direct illumination of the cockpit from artificial light sources is already in the game. It's not supported on some older maps though (Caucasus, Nevada), where the lights are not set up correctly yet.

You are correct that GI is not supported for these artificial lights, but i don't think that's what you're actually missing, or is it?

From manual:

Quote

Cockpit Global Illumination: A lighting method that takes into account not only direct light from light sources, but also reflexes (reflections and refractions of light inside the cockpit, dancing shadows), resulting in a much more realistic image.

and

Quote

The SSAO (Screen Space Ambient Occlusion) – Enables a shading effect caused by ambient lighting. It is an approximation of the global illumination technology with reduced GPU load. Improves realism of the picture.

but you have to note not all lights depicted in the game are actual rendered light sources - some are just simplified baked in textures.

Check the PG and Syria maps for airfield lights lighting up the cockpit and airframe - yet they fail to cast aircraft shadow. On the SC deck it's the other way around - the lights can't illuminate the cockpit but can cast an aircraft shadow (secondary shadows option).

So, depending on what you meant, please edit the title. I'm supporting the wish to have fully rendered lights at the airfields and carrier decks - ones that both illuminate the objects, aircraft and cockpits and can cast the proper shadows.

btw, here's report for the SC:
