jpm1 Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 (edited) Please note this is a non-official thread . i was playing BF2142 and just downloaded Hawg11 new map and i was thinking about that : how cool it would be if ED releases an addon that brings BS map to FC . the map is already done don't know but i think it wouldn't be so much work to bring it to FC , no . that could drastically increase FC life time and could let some time for ED to develop future BS modules without stress and bringing some money meanwhile .. give your opinion and who knows maybe it won't fall into deaf ear Cheers Edited June 20, 2009 by jpm1 SU-25 missions [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

IMHO having the Georgian extension if FC would definitely be interesting and yes, I'd pay, as well as for having Crimea in DCS! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Brit_Radar_Dude Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 I seem to recall reading on the Forums a while ago that the reason that a consequence of adding in the new terrain for Black Shark was that the Crimea terrain had to be deleted from Black Shark - it was a space / size of files issue. So to add that extra terrain in FC would probably mean you would have to give up the Crimea terrain to have it. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum....

Yeah, You're right, I also remember being said that adding a Georgian terrain extension on top of Crimea/Caucasus map would be heavy on the system so Crimea had to be removed from DCS:BS map. On top of that, entire Caucasus & new Georgian parts are of more detailed terrain mesh so Crimea had to be brought to same standards which in hte end leads to very, very large terrain file! However, it doesn't matter that much 'cause average HDD sizes we have in our rigs are like what...cca 500GB so I believe there's enough space to have it installed. IMHO, the best option in this case would be a simple terrain switcher available in options. Something like a drop down list which allows a player to select active between all terrain files that are installed (available) in DCS folder. So if additional maps sized 1000*1000km ever get published like DCS addons and you purchase it, you can install it and select it in options! This would reduce the file size of terrain and wouldn't cause so much processing for entire map! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

So to add that extra terrain in FC would probably mean you would have to give up the Crimea terrain to have it. i couldn't find the thread you're talking about but you made me notice something that i didn't notice before it's that it's seems in BS half of Crimea has been removed i don't have BS . but we loss what 250km² and we win what 3500+ km² i think we can't say we are losing out . when you see the possible gain on the other side i don't care of losing 3 or four airports , i don't care at all i would just have a very little regret for Khersones as landing the SU-25 on that short runway was always challenging but ED'll still be able to put again the airports later when the hardware would have evolved . If ED releases such addon and the addon doesn't need and a ultra mega hardware upgrade regarding FC original required specs i purchase it without hesitation SU-25 missions [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
