Had some troubles as in this thread http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=42601 and hoped someone may know what's going on.

Have deactivated again, uninstalled from hard drive, rebooted computer, reinstalled and reactivated again, using the correct numbers generated by the deactivation process. Then tried runnuing the game from single player icon on desktop, and still get "LAUNCHER.exe has stopped working, windows will check for a solution....etc"

One thing I noticed, the screens in the activation/deactivation process don't look the same as in the manual, had to use protect.exe to do it, as "LAUNCHER.exe has stopped working, windows will check for a solution....etc" comes up when you try to launch from the icons, autorun/play etc and I don't get any hardware code numbers at all, just a message saying activation was successful, with a date etc

Tried running it with DCSMAX as suggested, got the "LAUNCHER.exe has stopped working, windows will check for a solution....etc" when you don't use a mission, but it starts in a window when you include a mission to fly.

Could one of the ED team PLEASE have a look at this and tell me what is going on here, preferably with a solution to resolve this issue.

Is there a contact link for starForce, as can't use the other activation method without hardware code.

Thanks in advance for any help given.

What video card and driver version do you use? If ATI, try disabling Catalyst A.I. in the Catalyst Control Center.

Hi Acedy, I have got ATI Radeon 4870 with Catalyst 9.3, but when I checked Catalyst AI was already turned off, something I did while using iL2 1946, and was reccommended on their internet sites over time.

I also have core i7 920 CPU, 6 Gb memory, Vista x64 Home Premium (all updated to today), fast WD 300 mb hard disk with operating system, and another 1 Tb hd for storage etc.

I sent an email to Starforce with my problems details, but they may take a while to answer, it being the weekend.

Let me know if you need more info etc., and thanks for your help.

When you say this:

I take it that in the former case you just select solo play, and then you get the error. In the latter case you select a mission directly in DCSmax, and then it works?

If this is the case it is a problem with launcher.exe (or more precisely, some of the graphics libraries used by launcher.exe). Since Catalyst AI is already off, I would recommend that you revert to version 8.12 of the ATI driver suite.

Yes EtherealN, that is what's happening. Without using DCSMAX, I get "Launcher.exe etc" when I use the singleplayer icon (or the start menu icon, too), but Multiplayer loads its menu screen, DSCMAX doesn't unless you select a mission as well, which then plays in a windowed only style. Also noted in these cold start missions, the LWin + Home cheat key doesn't work, and because I can't get the Options screen/menu, I can't set any controls or keys, but my joystick seems alright with the default setup, but confused about what buttons for what as yet.

Are the 8.12 drivers foolproof? I once tried one version that was so bad I had to revert back (Can't remember which it was though). I know there is 9.6 out now, but I'm wary of changing video drivers, considering the strife some people report with them.

Thanks for your help.

Alot of people experienced the "Launcher.exe has stopped working" problem with earlier 9.X drivers (9.2-9.4 iirc), I don't know though if the problem still occurs with later 9.X versions like 9.6, but generally reverting to 8.12 cured it, if disabling Catalyst AI didn't help. So it's definitively the first thing you should try. Just make sure that you get rid of the old driver completely by using a tool like Driver Sweeper.

Thanks again Acedy, downloading Driver Sweeper now, and luckily I still have a copy of Catalyst 8.12 on my hard drives, so will try that.

Hello,

9.6 version has stopped the Launcher.exe error on my system (64 vista, 4870 x2)

Hi JG14_Smil, that's good news, as I tried installing my 8.12 drivers, but the .inf file was corrupted, so I am in the process of getting Cat 9.6 now.

My good news, guys, is the "Launcher.exe " problem stopped, and I got a white screen instead, but when I stood up, I noticed that I could faintly make out the Start menu, and was able to manipulate some buttons, so it looks like that has been my problem all along.

By the way, while in the options I noticed the graphics only go to 1600 x 1200. My default is 1920 x 1200, on a samsung 24" monitor. can you adjust to that resolution?

Thanks all for your help, now I can work on getting this going tomorrow.

Indeed, awesome on the report on the 9.6.

If someone with a 1950 (I think that was the number at least) could test as well - most especially someone that had issues earlier - it would be great. I have gotten the impression that that's the specific card that has had the most problems, so if that card is also "fixed" with 9.6 we can celebrate for real. :D
