Trigger Recommendations for Carrier Landing

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

I'm creating a mission where I'd like the mission to end once the player successfully lands back on the carrier. I have a few other triggers leading up to that point (certain units equal dead, etc), but what is a good trigger for a successful landing? I've tried messing with speed and altitude minimums but can't quite get it to work properly. Thoughts?

Thank you!

Hello,

If its a Single player mission, you could use Weight-on-wheels parameters to confirm if the aircraft is in contact with the carrier, as using altitude minimum would depend on the carrier deck height over the water. You would need also a moving trigger zone attached to the carrier, so if all three aircraft wheels are in contact with the deck and the aircraft is within that moving zone, then we can assume that the aircraft has successfully landed on it.

For the F-18C and F-14 the parameters are:

BASE_SENSOR_WOW_LEFT_GEAR
BASE_SENSOR_WOW_RIGHT_GEAR
BASE_SENSOR_WOW_NOSE_GEAR

If the parameter is 0, then that wheel is in the air, if its 1 then that wheel is in contact with the deck.

I'm not sure if the same parameters apply to the Su-33, would have to check ... which aircraft is your mission for?

Hello,

You are correct that it's a single player mission and I'm using the F-14. I really like your suggestion regarding the weight-on-wheels + moving trigger and will give that a try.

Thank you!

Hi,

Just checked, and the parameters apply to the Su-33 as well. I did a brief proof-of-concept:

a) This triggers detect the moment when both left and right main wheels are compressed at touch down. The trigger zone assures me that it happens only on the carrier:

b) This next trigger is the same, but also detects if the aircraft is at rest on the deck: three wheels compressed and speed less than 60 (to account for the carrier + wind speed)

Here is a short video of these triggers:

sorry the poor landing, its been a while since I last flew the Su-33 ☺️
