Jaegergoblin Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 I have a PIMAX 8kx and I noticed when I change the screen resolution in the general -> graphics page it doesn't seem to make a difference in VR. One video said to set it as low as possible? Isn't the resolution of the headset fixed? It would seem to me since your video card had to drive both the headset and what displayed on your monitor it would seem that the lower the better. Any advice or suggestions? Im running a 4070TI super OC 16GB of RAM and 96GM of system memory
speed-of-heat Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 The headset resolution is independent of the screen resolution, the only reason to mininise screen resolution is if you are low on VRAM... Rufuz64 Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 If you use ‘Use DCS System Resolution’ under VR / VR Mirror Options, no additional image is rendered for the mirror. Otherwise this is exactly what happens, and this costs VRAM. If you use ‘Crop To Rectangle’, the mirror is cropped to the resolution set under System. Are you sure the option for no additional rendering for the mirror is "Use DCS System Resolution"? Shouldn't it just be not checking any option in this section? speed-of-heat Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 when i said "some vram" i might have set a hare running that was not really worth it ... we are taking tiny amounts of vram ... like whatever a screens worth of stuff is ... so if you are really tight on VRAM set the system resolution to as low as it will go , and the mirror to use DCS System resolution... it will make almost no difference ... Phantom711 Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 (edited) The GPU renders the image for your VR headset anyways. Since this is usually done at a higher resolution than the image on the 2D screen, I don‘t think it makes a difference. The „crop to rectangle“ is only really important if you want to record footage while in VR (and use it for a video). gonvise Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 From https://www.8492sqdn.net/guides/dcs/performance/ VR Mirror Use DCS System Resolution On. Turning this off decreases performance and interferes with Jester features in Heatblur modules. Use external software such as Oculus Mirror Utility for recording/livestreaming.
Silver_ Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 (edited) Personally, I have noticed that the Frame Time improves a lot when I run the DCS mirror in full screen. In window mode, it has always given me more micro stuttering because it interferes with other Windows apps and you can see that the Sim synchronization is not the same. However, it is more comfortable when you touch things behind DCS, such as apps that hang, etc. Edited December 30, 2024 by Silver_
