jack333 Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Hi, I've noticed that when I use textures for objects such as airplanes in PNG format, they take longer to load and draw the entire airplane than when they are textures in DDS format. Have you noticed this too?

JPG are representations of things like "buy me" icons, screenshot of a missile firing, etc. in my experience with creating skins, i have never used JPG. can you post your dcs.log? Hi silverdevil, it's not the original textures that have PNG formats (not JPG) I mean mod textures created by the community, like some F-16, Apache, A-10 etc. textures. They work in the simulator but the loading of the textures is delayed. I have verified that changing them to DDS format returns things to normal, my great friend Starfire from the Retribution community told me this "DDS is designed for real time applications like video games and uses lossy compression for better VRAM efficiency. PNG on the other hand is for general image storage and prioritizes image quality, using lossless compression. So, using PNG will mean longer load times as the file sizes are likely larger." Greetings and thanks for your attention

jack333 Posted January 3 Author Posted January 3 Hi, silverdevil I've already changed all the textures that I had from PNG to DDS and therefore the log wouldn't tell you anything. Regarding mods that use PNG I'd say that some of lee1hy's do in his wonderful F-16 camouflages. I'll give you the address of one of them. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3320215/
