I got a powered usb/ethernet lead from Amazon. Not very expensive. About £17.

I would like to try this with my Q3, but which usb port can I plug the link cable into? Do I get a female - female adapter?

I have looked at that but am not sure which port to use for my link cable.

You don't need your link cable. Just a female USB c to male USB c cable such as this one:

https://amzn.eu/d/aHXLYVf

Otherwise you could strap the ethernet-usb adaptor to your headset, which is not an ideal way.

You might need to reboot your headset after disconnecting WiFi. I have to do that sometimes.

Thanks I will try that

Just did a double check to see if I gave you the correct advice regarding Q3 and it does look OK. Hopefully Meta have not changed anything.

Getting a bit fed up with it. do I need the developer account to make it work? I am sure a youtube guy didnt mention it.

You only need the developer account for eye tracking with the QP.

Are you connecting via the router? You need to connect an ethernet cable from pc to router then another ethernet cable from router to the headset (via the ethernet-usb adaptor).

My set up is rj45 on motherboard- cat8 cable-adapter-3.2 usb cable-quest3.

VD is installed and running on headset. Virtual streamer installed and running on computer. Streamer reports no ethernet connection , computer not found and reports error- profile set as public. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the rj45 driver and have run out of ideas. Thanks for your help

Do I need to buy a router anyway?

Unfortunately yes you still need to use a router. Is your current router close to your pc? You could use that to check if it works for you.

Edit: please see the guide in the first post. It explains what you need for the connection. This is for the QP so ignore the eye tracking stuff and you should not need to use the android edit.

That's the same one I have been using for about 2 years so yes it should work ok.

Edit: here is a list of routers that have been "approved" by the VD team.

I understand it to be Power over Ethernet.

Thanks for this, I am stuck though.

I got it to work for like 10 seconds but then it disconected and no matter what I do, even redoing the steps, cant get it to connect again. evn happened in steam, it connected then disconected.

could it be my family hub kicking me out?

UPDATE

Even bought a switching hub so it wouldnt even go through my router, still not good enough. just kicks me out

Ya... Power over Ethernet. It's a standard that is build into PoE capable switches to carry power over certain wires in the Ethernet cable. The receiving ends have to split the power out. This way, you can skip the power wire to your Ethernet-to-USB-C adapter. So, one Ethernet cable in, and that's it. Obviously, you need an PoE capable Ethernet to USB-C adapter. I have one capable of the required 60W.

Note that, PoE capable switches are not cheap.
