ebabil Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Hi Guys I just can’t decide. If I replace my 9700K with a 9900K, will it make any noticable difference? If not; is replacing it with AMD 7700X (along with MSI B650 + 32gb ddr5 ram) good idea? I need to spare some budget because I am also planning to buy a Moza Ab9, which is very expensive too. LucShep Posted February 27 Posted February 27 (edited) i7 9700K to i9 9900K is too small of a jump for gaming today, though the price on a used one is tempting. The AMD Ryzen 7700X is a good balanced CPU, but it's not really all that great for gaming. Better choice would probably be something like this popular combination: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D (yes, others will recommend the 9800X3D but it's expensive and only a tiny bit better) CPU Cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 (any version of the Phantom Spirit 120 is good) MOTHERBOARD: an inexpensive(ish) mid-range B650 motherboard with robust VRM. For example, any of these is great for the AMD 7800X3D: - Asrock B650E Steel Legend WiFi - Asrock B650E PG Riptide WiFi - Asrock B650 Steel Legend WiFi - Asrock B650 Pro RS - MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk Wifi - MSI PRO B650-P WIFI - Gigabyte B650 GamingX AX v2 MEMORY (RAM): any kit of DDR5 64GB (2x 32GB) 6000 CL30 "AMD EXPO" For example, Gskill X-Flare F5-6000J3040G32GX2-FX5 or Gskill Trident Z5 Neo F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5N See if your budget allows for something like that - it'd be a kickass upgrade over your current system. Mr_sukebe Posted February 27 Posted February 27 The move from a 9700 to a 9900 is only really going to give you hyperthreading as the number of CPU cores won't change. To my knowledge, that's unlikely to help either of the sims that you mention. Personally I bought a new rig to replace my 9700 and went with a 7800x3d. That game me a good 50% improvement in frame rate, and is where I'd recommend you apply the cash. 7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat
ebabil Posted February 27 Author Posted February 27 7800x3d is like black market. Even second hand units are too expensive. Aapje Posted February 27 Posted February 27 I see clear signs that we are in a strong downward movement on the pricing of the 7800X3D, so I would just hang tight for a bit. In my local market, the price went down by 55 euros in a little over a month. And in the US, it seems that the price just dropped by $50, bringing it lower than the pricing in my local market. Typically, US pricing is a bit ahead of pricing elsewhere. Turkey is probably a bit behind the EU in pricing changes. My expectation is that prices will drop by 50-100 dollars/euros in the next 1-3 months. Basically, they tend to gradually lower the pricing to get more buyers, while trying to get people to pay as much as possible. AMD seems to have miscalculated that many people switched over to AMD as Intel's Arrow Lake is a major flop. But AMD is increasing production a lot to catch up, and we should mostly see a normalization of pricing once that happens (probably a bit higher pricing than usual due to the lack of competition, but not as much as now).
ebabil Posted February 27 Author Posted February 27 Nice advise.
