It was said that we would not be getting the UPK-23 because it was only ever used on export variants of the Hind. But ED's F-5E has various options for export variants, our F-16 gets a triple-rail Maverick that was never operationally used, the FA-18 has a cheek-mounted LANTIRN that was never used by USN or USMC, and the BS3 has a third wing pylon that doesn't even exist in real life.

We should have the UPK-23 to recreate the Hind in export usage.

I agree. Mi-24 without UPK-23 is like a man without a hand. 😉 If Mi-8 has UPK-23 in its armament then what is the problem of adding it to Hind.

Particularly with the Afghanistan map. Polish Hinds almost exclusively had the UPK-23 when operating out of Ghazni.

I think it would offer interesting gameplay as a more accurate weapon then S-5/8, but still less accurate then the nose gun atleast horizontally. Wouldn’t have the range of the rockets, but would open up being able to snipe single units in a way you need the majority of a rocket pod for.

EDIT: damn, let me back track! I just read about its export use,

1. it required a separate position on the weapon selector; which would deter from the 100% USSR version we have.

2. And a bigger deal for me, it did not have CCIP! You have to aim manually! In such a case, your only aiming aid would be the scale telling you approximate range to target.

So I rest my case, it might not actually be that accurate unless you were 2-3 corrections in. And barely more accurate than using it from Mi-8. Big sad😭

UPK-23 is a great can opener, if you know what I mean. Adding it to the game would definitely give more fun than the useless, nobody needs GL AP-30.

ED was able to adapt more than one airframe to their technical idea that one more or less won't make a difference to anyone, and the pleasure of destroying enemy units would be immeasurable.

Yes, I would agree to that. All it takes is tracer bullets, and I can work out the aiming correction myself.

Yes, some close action and tracers will do it. This and two gunners at same time without losing hardpoints use and I will be in Hind heaven.

I don't understand anything in russian except Davai Davai!
