Server Crash - 'Access Violation' in various DLL - ending in 'wSimCalendar::DoActionsUntil + 0x262'

We have been seeing frequent server crashes when running this miz with none of the crashes pointing directly to user lua, rather usually edcore.dll and less frequently other ED DCS dll files. It happens irregularly: might be 45 minutes, might be 2 hours, 5 hours,... We have the server set to restart every 6 hours. In order to help diagnose, I have started hosting nightly a separate server that no player joins except myself. Please find attached the logs and crash zip from the first night.

A patch was released just after I started for the night. I will patch and continue to run, posting subsequent crash logs.

Here is the latest. It is an odd double crash. First one here did NOT bring the server down. I ignored the popup about the crash because the server still appeared to be running normally. My mission lua was still functioning, and AI assets I observed appeared to be behaving normally.

I disable ground unit "unstuck" routine to see if it was related to that. Currently inconclusive.

 

Had another "soft" crash popup that didn't stop the server from running (like my 2nd post in this thread). Unfortunately the game later crashed in a way that didn't generate a dump successfully.

C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION errors can sometimes be due to memory problems.

I've dropped your log into the DCS log analyzer which seems to verify some of this based on the DxDiag report within the zip file:

Windows Error Reporting (WER)

Application Errors

DCS.exe: was hung and killed

Memory Timing Issues

  • Remove any overclocking (XMP) from your RAM.

Microsoft Update / Store issues

  • Make sure you have enough free disk space.
  • Run SFC and DISM to check your Windows.
  • Run wsreset.exe to reset the Microsoft Store cache.

 

For the SFC and DISM commands you can run each of those separately as per the below. Run those from a command prompt as administrator.

Maybe I grabbed the wrong file for the singular crash. Windows 11 likes to put the newest file at the BOTTOM despite being sorted newest first.

 

Here is the latest. This happens on more than just my system. I thought it might be related to an 'unstuck' routine for ground units that got stuck, so I disabled that part. Still the same doactionsuntil + 0x262

Still the same C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION which indicates memory issue. Have you removed all overclocking and XMP profiles (BIOS) from your RAM? Run a memory test as well. Ran the other commands I posted previously?

Sleighzy, the log shared by Grindmetal is a run on a different system. Wouldn't an issue with RAM produce inconsistent faults, instead we are seeing 3+ different servers throw the same error chain?

Thanks for that, much appreciated as always. Yeah, didn't realize this was across multiple machines. The stack traces all start with that "(World) wSimCalendar::DoActionsUntil", then have slightly different operations in between, and then look to be largely ending at "(edCore): LinkBase::Set" just prior to the ACCESS_VIOLATION.

Given the number of machines hitting this and the followup items you've done now I'll defer to the ED dev team.

@BIGNEWY , is this something your team could have a look at please.

Thank you. The only annoyance for testing is that it I have no idea what is actually inducing it. It might happen more frequently with more players connected, or it might not. And like I said in the OP, it may require leaving the mission running for more than 6 hours. It is a pain point in my community because it can happen a few times in our flight nights. Other communities utilize the base mission lua and did mention crashes in discord chat.

I was curious if this was fixed in the latest patch sans patch note. But it still seems to be present.
