I'm quite glad I found this thread, because I'm getting mad over this issue for quite a few days too now. I think I could have spared me ordering a new link cable, this definitely now sounds to me like a meta issue.

I also tried VD for the first time last week, because of this issue and while it is generally a good thing and works fine with almost all VR Games and Applications on PC, it fails to deliver a satisfying performance with DCS, I get terrible lags and stutters when flying with gazelle over incirlik on syria map, on other maps it's fairly better, but SSW produces some very ugly "wobbles" here and there, I guess ASW is just better. Overall I think I would prefer link cable when doing DCS, lets hope they fix this issue sooner than later.

Just experienced the link issue.  My thanks to Timcat, as this worked for me.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but this may not all be related to VR setsups. When I deleted the Meta app, I hung the Q3 up to recharge and rebooted. Back to TrackIR. But in the game, no matter what I played at my usual settings, I started getting momentary freezes in game. SMH...

In my case the Oculus log files, which you can retrieve by starting the OculusLogGatherer.exe in the diagnostics folder, producing output to your desktop, indicate that the USB connection is lost. When using airlink, the connection to the device is lost too. As a result all operations on the headset fail. Due to lack of exception handling, the system hangs and my dumpfile indicates the GPU was unable to write to some memory address.

Fired the Q3 up, did a bunch of things. No problems. Reinstalled the Link software, enabled it, and lots of visual artifacts. Definitely Meta. My game play in flatscreen mode is weird too, but I attribute that to the latest update. Prior my system was cranked to the max and had no problems.

I have received an update tonight in the PTC channel (Beta). Version number was not updated and is still 77.0.0.574.329, however, I played for 25 minutes without a crash.
Hopefully not issues after rebooting and trying again tomorrow.

Headset still on 76.1025

Negative for me - I just did the new update 77 and link is still broken.

Sometimes will connect to PC but then freezes and you see jagged lines when you look around.

Then trying to reconnect just the waiting screen.

I stopped using PTC a while ago as the beta updates broke things for me more than once. I now just stick with official updates.

Played for just over an hour without crashes. However, the anti-aliasing doesn't seem te be working as it used to. Jagged lines.

I gave up on Link almost immediately after I got my quest pro and stuck with VD.

No matter what I do with link it looks like a mess and none of the settings seem to adjust the graphics and resolution. No idea why. I reinstalled last week and tried again out of interest and its still a blocky mess compared to VD. The difference is huge. I know it’s not supposed to be like this, but to be honest when VD just works, I can’t be bothered messing with link trying to work out which bizarre setting is conflicting with what and why none of the sliders make any difference whatsoever. For such a big company Meta really have messed up on the software side for vr.

I wish I could do the VD, but my home router/wifi is on the first floor in my living room, and my game room is on the second floor down the hall. Other than running cat5 between them during game time--I'm guessing 50 feet--I'm pretty much stuck with a cable and Meta Link. A bummer for sure...

I’d love to get metalink to work properly just to see if it really compares, but alas - meta says no!

Not sure how your PC currently gets it's internet based on the distance between it and the router. Would this network configuration work for you? (Taken from the Virtual Desktop Discord for alternative network setups).

I can post a link to the setup guide if needed.

You can do that? I thought the whole point was to use the hard wiring for speed purposes. Maybe I'm missing exactly what Virtual Desktop accomplishes. Yes, if you have a link I'd like to read up on this. I don't use discord much because in my hands it's hard to search and ask for help (I can't seem to get notifications when folks answer) but this is worth trying. It's just the cost of a second router and some configuration I'm guessing. Thanks for this.

The hard wiring is needed for the Ethernet connection between your PC and the router that you are connecting to with your headset. They recommend a dedicated router close to your play space. In the diagram above the dedicated router is on the right hand side, and the blue line has an Ethernet cable connected from that to your PC. Basically your existing router is just providing internet…which doesn’t matter as Virtual Desktop just needs a fast connection to your headset, it doesn’t use internet.

I wish I could get VD to work properly with DCS, but I got horrible lags and stutters on some maps that otherwise work fine with link cable (Heli over Syria map for instance), so I would love to use link cable, as it seems to provide a more stable performance, but this is impossible now due to the connection failings. VD in whole works very fine with every other VR game I tried so far, delivers a smooth performance (I only experience some audio lags here and there), only DCS makes some problems.

Thanks. I've ordered a router and cable, and will try to get this set up this week. Appreciate the link.

I have just updated to the latest update from meta (official not PTC) and I keep  getting random dropouts. Connects ok but just randomly stops.

Back to VD which is excellent since the last update.

How do these Link disconnects look like for you guys?
I‘m asking because I‘m not sure if it‘s Link disconnects that I am experiencing occasionally or something else…

With the Quest 3 on, it works fine. My Meta Link driver JUST updated a few hours ago (east coast US so say 10am). When I connect up the link cable and enable Link, 95% of the artifacts that appeared in the last (two?) update are gone. There is some very brief lag on the edges. When I go into DCS, regardless of VR settings, I only get a small clear window slightly larger than my forward cockpit view. Everything off to the sides is black and white jazzed artifact. I also noticed my NVIDEA driver (4080 super) updated as well.

So, something is still broken with link.

My ethernet cable and WiFi router for the PC arrived. I'll begin the ICS-based install tomorrow.

Sometimes it hangs on the load screen (3 dots or new animation). Other times it loads in ok and is connected to PC for a minute but if you run anything the screen freezes and around the edges of views it renders jagged lines like an 80s music video.

I’ve tried headset factory reset, new meta cable, complete delete and reinstall of software, normal version plus beta …

Meta support is also pretty hopeless, I must be 2 weeks in to the most inane messages from different people asking the same questions over again with zero acknowledgment that there is anything wrong with their software.

I’ve given up trying to get it to work and just check every few days to see if they’ve fixed it, if not I just go back to doing other hobbies.
