Jettison spent bomb racks no longer working

Not sure what changed, but I used to jettison the bomb racks once the bombs had been released, but they remain on the aircraft even though I hear the clunk as they should be falling away....?

Is that a bug or by design?

Not being able to jettison the rack itself was an intentional change, as it was not possible IRL. What the jettison button does is it just drops any bombs on it, but the rack itself stays on the aircraft.

But are you saying that you still hear a clunk sound when you "jettison" an already empty bomb rack (which then correctly stays on the aircraft)?

That could be a bug then - playing the sound even when there is no ordnance to jettison anymore.

Would the empty bomb hooks actuate?  Or do they only actuate when actually releasing a bomb, and then remain locked open?
