Maybe a silly question...
What SCS do when pressing it in direction of A-G radar ddi?
Some kind of mark(brick) appears, like in GMT mode. But thats not target designating, as I understand.

From the DCS F18 Manual pag 190

which you'll find it here:

Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Doc\DCS FA-18C Early Access Guide EN.pdf

AG Radar Display pag 188

HOTAS Control from pag 189

Quote

Sensor Control Switch
This switch is used to assign the TDC to a display. If the radar is on the right DDI and the switch is moved to the
right, the TDC is assigned to the right DDI with the radar display, and conversely with the left DDI.

If the TDC is already assigned to the DDI with the radar display, pressing the switch again in the direction of the
radar display commands an acquisition on press and a track on the release.

If already tracking, the sensor control switch can be held (pressed) in the direction of the DDI with the radar
display, and the TDC can then be used to slew the in-video cursor. Upon release of the sensor select switch, the
radar will attempt to track the new location.

If the radar is in track mode, pressing the sensor control switch to the right will break lock on an FTT or GMTT
track and the radar will return to search mode (MAP, GMT, or SEA).

When the sensor control switch is pressed forward, it assigns the TDC to the HUD and the radar is placed in AGR
mode if the radar is not tracking.

Thanks, @pokeraccio.

Yeah, saw that in manual. I would rather ask whats purpose of that tracking mode?
How can it be more useful comparing to common SPI designation?

It's the automatic acquisition mode and or command into STT if you're in RWS or TWS. In RWS AACQ is a system roe matrix'd highest threat target the radar has and is signified by the large green cross. If you command AACQ it will command STT on that target. In TWS it just commands STT on the current L&S. All of this is specific to A2A mode and radar selected.

SCS is a multi-function and context dependent switch. It will do different things based on master mode, DDI, and sensor selection. If you're looking for a2g specific SCS functions then you need to look at that specific system.

Putting the AG radar in track mode isnt really needed for mapping. But it is needed for GMT and SEA
