We tested the patch for a long time actually.

It just goes to show you how extremely diverse people's installs are, and that the beta team is always, always small compared to the world out there.

Any other questions? ;)

But ED knew about this, in the patch download page says "Windows regional settings should be set to country setting in compliance with patch language", so it's nothing "bugged", it seems to be working as intended. That's what worries us. I hope those internal talks can resolve this.

The only question I would have is the details of what caused this - the technical ones, that is, not necessarily methodological or organizational. (The latter would probably end up in a flame war anyhow... :P )

From what I've gathered it's probably something related to unicode - or rather absense (?) of unicode compliance - making DCS sensitive to how numbering formats are handled on a computer, but that is a relatively vague guess on my part. But the weird thing is that to my understanding that should have affected the base product as well in that case, meaning that we should have seen this issue when people first install DCS, not when patching.

So while the "fix" is known, to me it's a bit like bashing the engine of a malfunctioning car with a hammer and finding that somehow that did the trick. It makes me even more curious as to what the exact problem was. (In that analogy's RL occurance, it was the solenoid on the starter that was stuck, and going absolutely maniac with a hammer managed to dislodge it. I was immensely fascinated. :) )

Though, while realizing and admitting that I don't know the exact root of the issue, it does seem like it should have been noticed by a tester who happened to be running an english version in a non-english country - since I get the impression that at least the biggest minority of users would fall into that category. My guess: it doesn't affect everyone who meets those simplistic criteria for whatever reason. (Even if a bug's "solution" is "simple" that doesn't mean that the bug or problem itself was necessarily "simple".) But after that I'm even more unsure and if there's anything that can help shed light on how it all works I'd love to read it. :)

EDIT/ADDITION:

Yeah, it's there, the confusing part about it though is that I've seen mentions of the German version only working if your computer is set to be in german or in germany, and similar stuff, but that the english version is international. So it's easy to think that that stuff is related to that and not something new. (Note: I've never used the german version and is basing this solely on loose memory of forum threads.) Especially when the readme says "doubleclick and run, with priviliges" and that's pretty much it.

I agree, not severly bugged, so no reason for insulting ED. But this obviousely this issue is not acceptable from a user's perspective, hence some fix is needed. Shoudn't be much of hassle. Regaional Settings were no issue in v1.0;

So keep "complaining" and bring up your "special situations", if you are having this issue, like I do, but give ED the time to look into it. :smilewink:

The reasons why some of you get errors launching the game I have already mentioned somewhere in this thread. Basically game look for localized files according to system locale. If your system locale is Spanish and game version is Russian, then you will get errors, because game will try to load Spanish files, which of course are not included with Russian version. :smartass:

I had the same problem. My system locale was Lithuanian and game version was Russian. I did not want to change system locale to Russian, so I tricked the game. I copied all Russian files and renamed them so, that they looked like they were belonging to Lithuanian version. Result: system locale is still Lithuanian, but game happily show Russian text and there are no errors.

P.S: there are about 400 locale specific files across multiple folders, so manual renaming is very tedious. I have used to a script to do that.

Interesting, I do not have this error.

In my Vista 64, formats, location etc. are all set to Croatia.

Game language is English.

I have the same problem with the 1.01 - 1.01a hotfix...It's not there!

I have D/L'ed the full 1.01a patch. Is this install OK over a 1.01 install?

Thanks!

But...there is not a german patch yet. Only for russian and english versions. You have to wait a little bit.
