btaft Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I installed the newest patch and have been pretty pleased with it. I do have a couple of questions that some people might know the answer to. 1) I noticed in the readme that processor affiniity will now be automatically set to use all cores on a multi core processor when using vista.......does this mean I don't need to use DCS Max anymore to accomplish this (no disrespect meant to the author) 2) I had also heard that there was some talk discussion that a 64 bit executable was going to be released with this patch. I didn't see anything in the readme along these lines....is this just a myth or is it expected in a future release 3) Finally....is it just me or did the AI get a little better over night. Their aim seems a lot better (still won't run for cover). It is either that or the blast radius of the SAMs has improved. I didn't see this in the readme either but I seem to be getting shot down easier than before. Any help/insight is appreciated
Panzertard Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 1) Unless you used DCSmax for other reasons, no. Altough some user have experimented with setting Affinity and number of cores to 50% (2 out of 4) and gotten even better FPS - others have not got such improvement. But that may be individual for each computer and system. 2) No - but quite a few people hoped for it to happen - but by the looks of it, it didnt. But it works flawlessly on x64 systems anyway. 3) AI as in enemies, by the looks of it - yes. Lot of tears over lost pilots while testing the AI response online so far - also it feels like they have a lot better accuracy. It's a matter of opinion AFAIK. The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning
STP Dragon Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 3) I hope the SAMs will fire quicker after patch! In V1.0. I watched a HAWK which was tracking a ka-50 for 5min before launch. It's a matter of opinion AFAIK It used to be I would see tracers and think...."ahh I got a few more seconds before I need to take evasive maneuvers.....press on with the attack" Now it seems like if I see tracers I have already been hit or will be before I can react and they seem to do more damage. I actually prefer it now.....makes me have to think instead of being "King of the Sky".....lol
Feuerfalke Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 (edited) IIRC there was a "to flare or not to flare"-thread a while ago and somebody mentioned that a new seeker-logic would be implemented. As in real world, a lock can be prevented before the missile is launched, but once the lock is achieved, the IR-seekers are very difficult to shake off. Guess that this was implemented in the patch? To #2 IIRC it was not said that it will be available in the patch, but that they are working on the changed exe. Maybe this will come in a seperate download, as it will only apply to people who want to use this, yet (probably) doesn't change any content. To the tracking HAWK: The MIM-23 has a semi-active seeker, so it can have difficulties locking on a target that is flying low in front of obstacles or elevated ground. The same time the MIM-23 has a minimum engagement altitude of 60m. If you are below that altitude and at quite some distance, the MIM-23 will just track you, because it would have a large chance to missfire. If you fly closer or angles change, that chance can change to their benefit, though. ;) Edited August 12, 2009 by Feuerfalke MSI X670E Gaming Plus | AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | 64 GB DDR4 | AMD RX 6900 XT | LG 55" @ 4K | Cougar 1000 W | CreativeX G6 | TIR5 | CH HOTAS (with BU0836X-12 Bit) + Crosswind Pedals | Win11 64 HP | StreamDeck XL | 3x TM MFD
dsobbe Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 " AI as in enemies, by the looks of it - yes". What does "AI" mean? I cannot find a reference to it in the manual.
Rhino4 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 ai=artificial intelligence (oxymoron) And I definitely agree, the aaa has gotten much more accurate.
dsobbe Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Thanks guys, I'll have to get some of that "AI" to help me survive the deadlier enemy fire in the patch. I have to stay so low that I'm using the shkval lens wipe to push grass out of my line of sight. :-)
