Agg Posted September 16 Posted September 16 Long story short, I like to create "free flight" missions with populated air bases and airports to at least give me the illusion of the world being alive - but I'm having some difficulties finding out what was based where in East Germany. West Germany seems to be well documented, but for the East I'm finding a lot of conflicting accounts on what was based where. If anyone know of a reputable source for what aircraft were based at what air base in Eastern Germany I'd be very happy if you could share it.
QuiGon Posted September 17 Posted September 17 (edited) I like to use https://scramble.nl as a source for my own missions. They also have an ORBAT for the East German Air Force: https://scramble.nl/planning/orbats/east-germany/east-german-forces-historical-orbat While that's quite a reliable source in my experience, I still tend to cross check it with other sources. The German Wikipedia offers a lot of information on the East German Air Force and their structure. There's an article for each of its squadrons, so maybe that also helps if you run it through a translator: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jagdfliegergeschwader_1 https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jagdfliegergeschwader_2 https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jagdfliegergeschwader_3 https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jagdfliegergeschwader_7 https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jagdfliegergeschwader_8 https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jagdfliegergeschwader_9 https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transportfliegerstaffel_24 https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marinefliegergeschwader_28 https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transporthubschraubergeschwader_34 https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jagdbombenfliegergeschwader_37 https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jagdbombenfliegergeschwader_77 Edited September 17 by QuiGon 1 Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
Volator Posted September 17 Posted September 17 With regards to the Soviet Airforce in East Germany, you can also find alot of information on this website: https://www.16va.be/sitemap.html 1./JG71 "Richthofen" - Seven Eleven
Agg Posted September 17 Author Posted September 17 Thanks guys! That's exactly what I was looking for!
Nealius Posted yesterday at 03:27 AM Posted yesterday at 03:27 AM scamble.nl gives a 403 error. I've been using this site: https://www.mil-airfields.de/countries.html#DE However it can sometime be thin on what units are based where during which time frame. A lot of it seems to be focused on MiG-15/-17 era.

Nealius Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Must have been bad timing when I clicked on it. So Preschen was the only base with German Fulcrums? Sucks that we don't have that airbase on the Germany map.
Volator Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Correct, JG-3 with two squadrons MiG-29 and one squadron MiG-21 (MF if memory serves right) Preschen was promised by Ugra for phase 3. 1 1./JG71 "Richthofen" - Seven Eleven
Nealius Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago I saw Wittstock was a major Fulcrum base for the Soviets, but currently it won't let us park any 29s in the shelters. Or on the ramp.

JG-3 (one sqn 21MF, two sqns 29A) and supposedly JG-2* (at reunification 2sqns 21M and one sqn 21SPS/K) were to be the two complete MiG-29 wings in LSK. JG-9 had the 23MF and ML and JG-7 (21Ms) had been disbanded by September '89. That left JG-1 (Holzdorf, 21MF and 21SPS/K) and JG-8 (Marxwalde, 21bis both subtypes) with 21s for the forseeable future. The 21SPS/K is a PFM with the gun-pod preparation. First flight at LSK was on 3 May 1988. Induction into DHS (~ QRA) at Preschen was in 1 December 1988. In terms of missing MiG-29 bases in GDR we have Falkenberg and Altenburg for GSSD and Preschen for LSK. ______ * couldn't find anything about that in JG-2's "Geschwaderchronik" though, just here: https://home.snafu.de/veith/jg2.htm Perspektivisch war durch die NVA eine Ausrüstung des JG-2 mit MiG-29 vorgesehen. So ein Feuerball, JUNGE!
