d0ppler Posted Thursday at 08:37 PM Posted Thursday at 08:37 PM I mean, is it modelled? Do you increase your chances to survive when sneaking through a high dense area of sam sites with your radar completely off? And how big is the difference in terms of cross section from SILENT to QUIET? A-10C, AV-8B, Ka-50, F-14B, F-16C, F-5E, F/A-18C, L-39, Mi-8, MiG-21, MiG-29, SA34, Spitfire, Su-27, Su-33, UH-1H
Solution SlipHavoc Posted Thursday at 08:42 PM Solution Posted Thursday at 08:42 PM Radar cross section is not affected by whether your radar is on or off. However I think your radar can be detected by enemy airplane RWR systems, and that will alert them to your presence. I'm not sure if ground targets can pick up your radar emissions though; I suspect they can't. It would be interesting to do some empirical testing on this.
RyanR Posted Friday at 12:41 PM Posted Friday at 12:41 PM I *have* noticed that turning emissions switch to the middle position will reduce how likely you are to get intercepted. Enemy radars are going to still see you, and based on mission scripting those radars can feed your position down the air-defense chain. -Ryan
darkman222 Posted Saturday at 11:34 AM Posted Saturday at 11:34 AM From chucks guide: NORM: all electronic signals for the aircraft are enabled • QUIET: radar, TACAN, and data link transmit but all other emissions are inhibited. • SILENT: all electronic signals for the aircraft are disabled, and include the radar, radar altimeter, data link, TACAN transmit, and ECM. 1

Thx! I remember in the jet, but forget in the forum. If you have "reliable" datalink, you can get a smidgen of stealth by running in QUIET mode, as the AI won't "see" you on RWR. -Ryan

Which page is this? Thanks
d0ppler Posted Saturday at 08:49 PM Author Posted Saturday at 08:49 PM This is totally off topic, but I’m pretty sure the radar altimeter works even if RF is set to silent. Dunno if it’s a bug or feature A-10C, AV-8B, Ka-50, F-14B, F-16C, F-5E, F/A-18C, L-39, Mi-8, MiG-21, MiG-29, SA34, Spitfire, Su-27, Su-33, UH-1H
