Drona Posted September 27 Posted September 27 Yesterday, I did a test flight and went up to Mach 2.3 (by the way, the Mach gauge in the English cockpit is so wrong, but I see it is already reported) at 22,000 meters. I was just about to reduce power when I lost both engines or at least the engines returned to idle or less than idle...(felt like it was starved for air). Once I dropped down to about 12 km, the engines automatically started up one by one. Is this as intended? My question is there is an air relight switch (for both engines) on the left control panel below the COOP mode section...but none of that is clickable as yet. Will this be implemented later on? I believe it should be implemented. You can see the engines lose power in this video: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2576571368 Watch from 36:00 to 40:00. Unfortunately, I don't have a track file. (Failed to save it)
AeriaGloria Posted September 27 Posted September 27 Engines do have ability to relight on their own Black Shark Den Squadron Member: We are open to new recruits, click here to check us out or apply to join! https://blacksharkden.com
Drona Posted September 27 Author Posted September 27 Okay, that's cool. But what's the reason for the air relight switch and also if you could enlighten me, the reason for the APU switch? Just curious and would love to know. Thanks.

I see two engine relight switches and an emergency APU off switch Black Shark Den Squadron Member: We are open to new recruits, click here to check us out or apply to join! https://blacksharkden.com
Dača Posted September 27 Posted September 27 That is APU. To help with startup if startup is done without cables. But I was able to start engines without touching that switch and without ground power.

Why is that APU switch there if it is not needed or has that been bypassed in early access?

I can see reason to turn it on. What if testing? What if you need a power source while you wait? He was writing one can start the engines without a running APU and without ground power. How does that work? Idk where you saw that. You don’t need to touch anything APU related on startup becuase the APU starts automatically and you have enough battery. 1 Black Shark Den Squadron Member: We are open to new recruits, click here to check us out or apply to join! https://blacksharkden.com

You switch this to COLD CRANK if the second engine (left or right) does not light up or if an RPM hang-up occurs (in such cases engine can be cold cranked by the APU) - however I don't think it will ever be modeled in DCS MiG. Out of the two ground start modes and four relight modes NONE of them require touching this switch, hence it is guarded position START NORM. Engines can be started with Ground Power Unit or with the two batteries that 9.12 has got installed (to my knowledge all alert sorties used the batteries for startup).
