Orao Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 number 5 isn't about how to avoid activation if you change your hardware. it's helps when you didn't change it. and hey - it's not my fault that SF ask for activation everytime you reinstall FC. I thought that it woudn't, and it's not supposed to... I just trying to help. Sorry, I have nothing against you. I beleived to StarForce (a forum member) who said that he speeks officaly for StarForce company. He clearly said that we wont have any trouble to reinstall FC if we dont change 40% of our hardware. On my question what will happen if we format the HD and then reinstall our OS he said that the SF wont consider that as changing. And now all of sudden it apperars that if we reinstall the game we loose one reactivation. I hope that this is a bug but if it isn't then ED you have all my best whishes for your future since I'm done with you.
Conuk Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 right I got some issues with my rig... still havent installed Flaming yet - so luckily aint used any activiations - but after installing a new hard drive the other day something is screwing up my system so I darent really install it yet. Stupid scenario - buy something - darent install it in case I have to reinstall it a few times or my OS... Hmmmmm - would like to know what happens when you use up 4 / 5 activations again - maybe you should be allowed only 5 per month or something. Then you can reinstall whatever you like for a limited time - everyone happy. This is the kinda problem that I dreaded with StarForce.... Hope it gets sorted soon. Back to sorting out my OS sob
Conuk Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 update : Just for anybodys information ... the Pc would not shut down because of Norton Ghost 9 and Kaspersky AV installed ......... what a bummer... now all sorted. About to install flaming :)
Guest ruggbutt Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 I just read on the diesimfanboi forums that Bard was told he had to purchase additional activations should he run out of the 5 he has. Is this true ED?
aceflier Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Might be the reason there is no reply to this question. If thats the case it would be bad for sales to disclose that information. :P [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Conuk Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 more like doom the project. I read somewhere that the next Codemasters Toca Race Driver game will not have SF on it.. wonder why.... Aint seen so many people `dare not` install/touch (!) there system because of a program. Myself one of em!
Tracker Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 I've owned LOMAC since the first day it was released (v1.0) in California. Since then I have only reinstalled it 3 times including the fresh install yesterday for 1.1. I play alot. My HL chat logfile dates back to 12-1-03 and is over 5Mb long just to give an idea of how much I am playing online. Is my system super stable or is this just a normal experience? You tell me. I really doubt I will need all 5 activations before the next version is released and even If I did, I'm sure ED would provide a solution with little trouble to me. After all, Microsoft and RedHat have similar arrangements. This version is meant for install on one system under normal usage. This is the best way I see for now to prevent persons from using single DL key and install software on entire lan of 6 or more identical hardware comps. (Which we would all like to do if it was allowable but bad business for ED):icon_redf 5 activations total, 1 on first install and 4 re-activations, is not that unreasonable. When all else fails, Eject then read the manual. Oh, and a good wingman helps.
viperace Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 I just reinstalled FC 1.1 because of a problem with the overcast layers and it didn't ask me to re-activate (i didn't uninstall Lock on first though), so i don't know what's up with this situation. I beleive ED should just come out and say "this is how it's going to be" period; it'll settle a lot of minds about FC and any further projects they (ED) can come up with. Myself i'm just worried that they are going to come out with some weird policy about having to repay for antoher activation key when your 4 are up. yeah i know "they haven't said that you have to pay for another key", yes, but they haven't denied either and i bet you there is an ED guy just reading these forums 24/7 and they KNOW how worried people are, yet they don't come out and clarify anything (i can't beleive they don't know about this issue on people's minds). ED we are your friends remember, the ones that PAID YOU for the sim, so please helps us around here, ok? Thanks :icon_frow
