slashxer Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago HI, I just wanted to ask one thing. I have a gaming laptop and it's 5 years old. Intel Core I5 10300H, GTX 1660ti 6gb VRAM and 16gb RAM. In multiplayer i get some fps drops to 10-15 for a few seconds. I'm thinking about buying more RAM like GoodRam SODIMM, DDR4, 16 GB, 3200 MHz, CL22 or Kingston Fury Impact 32GB 2x16GB 3200MHz DDR4 CL20. Do you think it will be better then? And which one is better to buy?
Hiob Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago More RAM will smooth out hickups in fps due to cashing/loading issues, but it won’t raise your maximum fps. Still, an upgrade to 32 and up to 64 GB is recommendable for DCS, though the latter would only make sense when you upgrade the rest of your system as well. (imho) Are you equipped with an SSD or still a spinning HDD? "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"
slashxer Posted 9 hours ago Author Posted 9 hours ago I have 3 ssd in my laptop, DCS is on the fastest one - SAMSUNG 970 Evo Plus 1TB SSD. Page file on the same SSD set to 32gb. I can't upgrade my system right now more than RAM but in 2-3 years I'll buy a new PC. Do you think going to 32gb is worth it? Some people said this laptop can get up to 64gb but manual says it's 32gb max.
Polar-eX Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Recently i upgraded from 2 x 16GB DDR5 5600 to 2 x 32 GB DDR5 6000 - with a I7 13700k - AMD Asus TUF 9070xt system. In Steam i viewed the mem usage and there was not a single game that used of the full 32GB My advice is to save the money and spend it on a better CPU / GPU which will dedicated impact on FPS. I tested in DCS / FS 2020 PMDG 737-800 / rF2 / GTA 5 I7-4790K with Corsair H110 / Asus Maximus VII HERO / 2 x 8 GB Corsair Platinum 2400 / Asus GTX980ti / OCZ Vertex 3 120 GB for OS / Corsair ax760i / Corsair Carbide 540 / Samsung EVO 500GB for games / CM 690 / Track IR5 / Logitech Extreme 3D / Saitek Proflight yoke, rudder & two USB throttle quadrants / Saitek X55 / VRinsight TT planel / Thrustmaster T500RS / Samsung SM P2770HD / 1000 cables.....

You’re probably better off saving up for a more meaningful upgrade further down the road. 1 "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"
slashxer Posted 6 hours ago Author Posted 6 hours ago But my fps are mostly good - around 60-70 in multi and more in single like 80-100 but I got those stutters from time to time. Isn't it worth to buy more RAM? I heard that 16gb today is nothing for DCS.
Cab Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago If you don't plan on buying a new PC for 2-3 years, I'd say upgrading to 32GB now is worth it. I know when I went from 16GB to 32GB the difference was very noticeable.
Hiob Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago 32 GB is certainly an improvement and 16GB without a doubt a bottleneck for DCS. Ultimately only you can decide how close or far an overall upgrade would be. If you are ok with the current peak performance, an update to 32GB will probably smooth out some of the drops. sjhorsley Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I have a 5 year old gaming laptop that came with 16 GB. Earlier this year I went to 32 GB and if definitely made a difference for me with stutters. I think is was just the reduced cashing that helped it smooth things out. I plan to upgrade my rig in the next couple years but this certainly got me over the hump for now, so I say it is worth it.
slashxer Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago Thank you guys. I guess I'll buy that Kingston cause its price is similar to Goodram 1
