Bug report — AH-64 Apache FCR elevation drift in Copilot Gunner (CPG) A/A mode

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Summary

When operating the Fire Control Radar (FCR) from the Copilot Gunner (CPG) seat in air-to-air mode, FCR elevation begins to slowly drift downward to its minimum immediately after releasing the Right Hand Grip (RHG) cursor. Re-adjusting elevation and releasing RHG causes the same automatic downward drift, rendering the A/A mode unusable.

This happens without any input from any controller (even when all controllers are disconnected and unmapped). I tested it with other player and it happens the same way for both of us.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Module

AH-64 Apache

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Component

FCR elevation control from Copilot Gunner (CPG) using Right Hand Grip (RHG) cursor

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Steps to reproduce

1. Spawn in AH-64 Apache and occupy or switch to the Copilot Gunner (CPG) position, in multicrew configuration (with another player)

2. Select Fire Control Radar and set radar to air-to-air (A/A) mode.

3. Use the Right Hand Grip (RHG) cursor to change FCR elevation to any value, then release RHG.

4. Observe FCR elevation slowly drifting downward to its minimum.

5. Re-adjust elevation with RHG, release RHG, and observe the automatic downward drift repeating.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Expected result

FCR elevation remains stable after releasing RHG cursor and maintains the manually set elevation in A/A mode.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Actual result

FCR elevation continuously and slowly drifts to negative values until it reaches the possible minimum after RHG is released, repeating every time elevation is adjusted and RHG is released.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Additional observations / test matrix

- The bug is not caused by controller input signals; it occurs with all controllers disconnected.

- The issue occurs in multiplayer when the CPG is a human player.

- The problem is independent of server and map; it occurs on all servers and maps tested.

- The issue affects both Player 1 and Player 2 CPG positions equally.

- A/A mode is the only mode that uses exclusively manual elevation setting; this bug prevents practical use of the radar in that mode.

- When you switch to TADS and turn on LINK, FCR stops to drift downwards.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Impact

The bug prevents reliable manual elevation control of the FCR in air-to-air mode from the CPG seat, making the A/A radar mode effectively unusable in gameplay and training.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Logs / attachments

Game engine Logs attached. Video attached. Reproducible without any input devices connected.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Suggested priority

High — blocks core A/A functionality for CPG.

@Jaro Is the attachment a zip file? Logs and videos will only get you so far. You should add a short track and the devs will probably be able to see what's going on in their debugger.

Cheers!

@MAXsenna yes, TRK file, zipped TRK file and also video recording are attached.
Great! I'm on my phone and the file doesn't have an extension, that's why I asked.

Cheers!

Hi,

We've tested this internally and cannot reproduce it either in single-player or multiplayer sessions. Using just keyboard or mouse clicks, the cursor only moves when actioned, releasing it will not produce any erratic movement.

Replaying your track, indeed the cursor seems to move but this leads us to believe it's being actioned by hardware. Please check your assignments again. You said you disconnected the hardware and still see this movement, maybe you have an assignment you're not aware? If you are certain it's not hardware, please temporarily move your assignment Lua files elsewhere and try to remap just the necessary buttons or axis from scratch. Don't worry, you can later replace the file back in the correct folder.

thank you

I can confirm that this is an issue I experienced, but have only experienced it as a CP/G of a multicrew AH-64.

I have added two .TRK files, including my and the pilot's perspective.

I can confirm that this occurs with axis bound controls.
HOWEVER, after initially tapping the control while in ATM of the radar as the CPG, the radar elevation would constantly descend. If the sight was not selected, it would cease descending in elevation angle. In the track, I switch to TADS several times and you can see that it doesn't immediately command movement downward. Additionally, you can see that the downward movement resumes the moment FCR is selected once more.

Within the track, I fire a hellfire twice. The first time, I fire the hellfire after ensuring that my axis for the MAN TRK Y Axis is unbound. You can see after this point the radar elevation continues to lower when it's selected as sight again. I confirm the control is unbound, and fire another hellfire. After this point, I confirm again the control is indeed unbound, and then click the 'Up' elevation arrow on the radar. The radar slews up a bit, but continues to descend all on its own.

While it may be true @BIGNEWY that you cannot reproduce this bug using only keyboard commands, I would hope that you don't simply declare 'There's no issue' just because it doesn't happen to affect your particular style of play personally, and will see with a more rigorous testing methodology that this bug does still exist, and does still affect those of us that use axes to control the AH-64 A2A radar.

I am happy to ask the team to check again, very often its not just me trying to reproduce reports here, although myself and nineline will be the ones to reply. I will run it by the team again and see.
