Cannot get the Guns CCIP rectile on the HUD?

I've watched several videos on this and I can't get it to work..  I even just did the GAU tutorial, and it was the same..  no joy.  

I have master arm on, and gun pac armed.  I have the hud set to soi.  I press the MMCB and the hud appears to change through 4 slightly different huds, but only one shows a tiny cross in a dashed circle at the top of the hud, and says ARM in the bottom left.   The other 3 are all the same.  ARM is gone, and there is only a small cross above center of the hud.   And none of them show the Ammo type or quantity on the left.  The word GUNS never appears on the hud.  And when I press DMS left and right just a 0 or 4 appear on the left side of the hud.

The first press of the MMCB should take you to guns mode. Have you then pointed the nose at the ground? It might just be that the gun cross is below the bottom of the HUD it likes to hang out down there below your normal field of view until you are diving at the ground. Otherwise, like Yurgon said, track files are useful.
