Devil dog laser guided bomb mission

This is the mission in the persian gulf where friendly ground troops are ambushed and you have to destroy enemy ground troops firing on them using laser guided bombs.  The laser is designated by ground troops.

But I'm having a couple of problems and keep failing.

Can see the target visually (marked with red smoke), but cannot get jester to lock on.  Have set A/G mode, selected the right ordnance but it does not give the lantirn mode in TV.  Also I'm not seeing any options with jester to for identifying the target.

Have jumped into RIO seat in an attempt to do myself but I also noticed there is no lantirn controls!!  its an F14B so why is there no lantirn joystick and controls?  The pod is attached.  Is the mission bugged?

I am on an older version of DCS, so is the lantirn controls part of a later update?

Modules - F-14B, Super Carrier

Terrain - Las Vegas, Gulf

DCS v2.5.6 on Windows 7.  WinWing Orion II F15EX throttle, J2 F16 grip & Skywalker pedals.

PC:  i7-8700k, 2 x 32GB DDR4-2666, Z370 Gigabyte, RTX 3080ti, 500GB NVMe 970 PRO, 2TB NVME 990 PRO, 4TB HDD WD Black

You don't need Jester to do any ID with the pod. The drone or ground troops do that for you, and lase the target. You just tell him to set the weapons up and choose your delivery mode (CCIP or CCRP). You pickle when appropriate, and the LGB should guide. Also, IIRC, your aircraft does not have a LANTIRN equipped. Only your AI wingman does (who is essentially useless). At least you are getting to that point, as the last few times I tried the mission, the convoy stops, and the ambush does not happen.
Cheers!

Ah my bad, maybe it didn't have the pod.  Its been a week or so since I attempted it and I didnt want to start it up before asking.

I had set CCRP but nothing happened.  I will try again, as was expecting comms from Jester.

But you must have to drop it like a non laser guided bomb in CCRP mode and then it is guided to the target by ground laser?

It would be good if it gave a bit more instruction.

Cheers tho

No probs. When the mission worked for me last time, I just used CCIP and dropped in a dive when the pipper was on the target. It gives the LGB more energy for guidance and manoeuvring.
Cheers!

Do the mission work now?

I’ve tried it a few times, but nothing ever happens. I’ve tried to just strafe and bomb the bad guys, but to no effect

You'll be able to drop it in either Computer Pilot or Computer Target. It's really your preference and it doesn't have to be overly precise.

The ground force's laser will do terminal guidance.

As for "instruction," I don't really get the feeling that this is supposed to be a training mission. So, it's up to you to know how the plane works. The ground commander needs an LGB on a laser spot and smoke marker. Now, how do I get the bomb there? You go through what you have and what your options are.

When did you last try it? Draconus fixed the mission, but I don't know if it made it to the official distribution.

This is the thread. I see that his links no longer work, I probably have it still in my drive. If it does not work for you, ping me and will look for it.

Thanks for the replies folks, I tried it again yesterday.

Tried in computer target (CCRP) but was expecting RIO to say pickle and he didn't so ran out of time.  Quickly changed to computer pilot (CCIP) and successfully dive bombed.

Its quite easy as you don't have to be that precise, just close.  The laser does all the work.

As its the first time trying it am quite slow and the friendlies get wiped but at least you get the target practise.

There is quite a lot going on, ended up getting shot down by enemy aircraft as you need to kill a chopper but I got confused and switched back to A/G.

It would be far better if there were some guided training missions for all the tomcats weapons, a bit like we got with the SU-25T.  At least for initial learning so you can take your time and figure what you need to do without time pressure and lots going in in a mission environment.

I've created a free mission on each map I have, initially for navigation practise and carrier landings, then added tankers for refuelling practise and then bandits for target practise.  Now added ground stuff for bombing practise.

RIO does nothing in Computer Target besides set up switches and maybe monitor the TCS or keep an eye out the cockpit. All the rest is up to you. You have all the release cues on the HUD.
