Sorry about this, but I can't find an answer anywhere

When you add reputation, and leave a comment, it says you might get rep back in return. How do you know when this happens? And also, when I look in my profile, it says I have something like 59 rep points - how does the icon ( coloured square with number) react to these?

Again sorry, probably a stupid question, but if you don't ask, you don't get.

warbird, don't be sorry. i've got exactly the same question only i haven't been brave enough to ask!!

also, when i add to a person's rep, it doesn't always seem to go up. do you have to be a certain level before it counts?

When you rep someone- their tally increases or decreases based on the number of rep points you have earned. This is shown as a Reputation point value under your name, along with a series of green badges indicating post count/ rep points/ seniority on the board. Mousing over the green badges brings up a series of comments regarding status as set up by the board.

Example: Anyone I rep (or negative rep) gains/ loses 27 points. There are several flood controls (various limits on repping) and you cannot rep anyone anonymously.
