Sorry if this has been ansewered. The new version sounds great. Price sounds good to. But I read where it has online activation. I have the original game on disk.If I buy this it will upgrade my game to 2.0 correct? Also is there going to be limited activations like Black Shark. Thanks.

Those points are all covered in the announcement-thread.

Take your time and read through. ;)

The protection method is the same as DCS:Black Shark. This means 8 activations and 10 de-activations. It should use the same "points system" as DCS:BS for determining when an activation would be called for - refer to the DCS:BS FAQ.

Flaming Cliffs 2 will also allow you to make parellell installs of FC 1.12 and FC 2.

Why the hell has everyone problems with the limited activations?

Activations and deactivations are together more than 18 possibilities of switching OS or changing hardware on your computer.

Simply reinstalling doesn't require a deactivation or activation at all.

One must be a jinx to run out of activations, or simply a dork, jerk, moron, mug, twat, douchbag, a.s.o.

If you already ran out of activations for Black Shark, I have a longer list of terms to search from

Common Sense dictates that if you have a Reasonable Explanation as to why/how you managed to Eat your way through your Allocated Amount of Activations/Deactivations, then in the absence of Nefarious Intent you should have a Legitimate Expectation of Receiving further Activations/Deactivations in Due Course - provided of course that you ask nicely......After All, any 'Right' you may have is far from Absolute ;)

Haha, initially I was scared by that too. I believed I would be upgrading my rack often. But as I found out the actual updates I did are not interfering with limited activations. As the engine stays the same I was merely spending money on displays and other gear.

I'd say you'd have to be very rich or unusually keen on being up-to-date to actually run into troubles there. Accordingly you'd have to spend lots of money in hardware and new games for it being worth it. And then a few bucks would hardly matter.

I have had a few games that had "limited" activations. And now those games are in the trash. When I bought BS I new that it had limited activations (CD).

The thing that I did not plan on was unforseen problem arising. Which cost me activations. Totaly out of my control.

As in reinstalling LOFC many times, due to glitches and being told to reinstall the game.

Reinstalling the game wont require a *new* activation - it will require that you confirm your "current key" - reusing your previous activation. Unless you've changed (too much of) your hardware of course.

I'm not all against the idea of the limited activations and deactivations.

Buuuut on the whole with this starforce system some details are really plain out annoying. How the system (which you are most definitiely aware of Panzertard ;)) takes into account the number of network adapters. Something that I really didn't foresee and sometimes am unable to foresee changes to when playing around with virtual computers and VPNs.

The starforce activation system should really only consider changes to the major system components like CPU, motherboard and Operating System. Taking into account amount of memory, network adapters, harddrives (not sure if it really does that now though...), graphics cards, really shouldn't be a part of it. All of these change every now and then because of troubleshooting or just consumption-happy nerdy upgrades ;). Sometimes even my Bluetooth network adapter or is reinstalled because of a faulty driver or sudden powerloss or some other strange reason beyond my control.

I now realise that I spent most of my morning ranting about the copy protection instead of doing something constructive. Sorry about that. Regardless - what other people have told you in the thread before me is true and I concur with them. I still have 3 activations left after a year of harddrive crashes and OS reinstalls and memory upgrades and several virtual machines =D:pilotfly:

Wha it don´t understand is, look, ED knows that there are lot of people that don´t like this protection. A part of this guys wont buy the sim because of this.

So, having other methods, why continuing with this?

Look ROF system, rock solid and no problems.

Greetings

Also there are people who says the same just in opposite: RoF protection is awful, look at DCS - it is good. Always there will be someone unhappy.

Ok, so let's just say the user runs out of activations for some reasons (e.g. swepain's problems)

Then it's SOL time for the user? No more DCS or FC 2.0 unless he or she buys another one? (even though he or she already paid for it once)

and what if (For example again & hopefully would never happen.. at least within the next decade) ED goes out of business?

No more online activations? No more DCS/FC 2.0 forever?

YAh yah, it's a curiosity that i know would make me hated here~ Curiosity kills the cat after all...

How dare you??? This is heresy, you infidel! :D Seriously, don't look decade ahead. Practice shows that after decade not (only) the protection becomes a problem, but protected software too due to incompatibility with other software (OS) or hardware, so if developers go out without transferring software to someone else for further development and maintenance, software mostly dies or begins to be painful to be run even with protection removed.

I feel your pain ! That was my problem to,as my PC is still under warranty . Tech support told me to reinstall the OS 3 times in 4 months . Stupid me reinstalled BS 3 times and could not deactivate it. I was so mad about loosing 3 activation that I have not installed or played BS since.

In all honestly I understamd the need for copy protection, but protection and limited activations ....:(

At the rate company's are closing ,this is a concern. I hope ED never closes and honestly hope things get so good for them in the future they will be rolling in money.

A look at the activations section of the customer support section would inform you of the fact that people with legitimate problems have had their activations renewed. What is needed is a polite explanation of the problem, and a proof of purchase. ;)

ED aren't devils, they know full well that some people will have hardware issues and that this might cause conflict with the protection, and since they're nice guys they often take time to fix those issues. The system is basically there to defeat stuff like people sharing their keys with 7 friends and such malicious things.

This question has been asked a hundred times, and when handled in the appropriate section it has usually been fixed.

Sorry to get things in a debate. I was just curios about my questions. Now that I know I could get more activation, even though it was not my fault to use them.

Thanks for the info and links. Now I can install and play the game again. Thanks again...
