whatnot Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Hi Guys, Just purchased DCS BS yesterday and bumped into an issue with it. I've googled high and low for this but can't find a reason or fix for this: My TIR 5 works for looking around in the cockpit but no leaning, zooming, rolling etc. The DCS version is english and I have applied the latest english 1.0.1 patch to it. Also the game is visible in TIR software as 'Black Shark' and I'm able to apply my custom TRI profile for it so I assume that's ok. I didn't find any relevant TIR options in the menu and searching the manual with 'TrackIR' finds nothing. Help me out please, I'm dying to get going with the KA-50 but it's not the same thing without real 6DOF! Thanks in advance!

whatnot Posted November 28, 2009 Author Posted November 28, 2009 I don't think that was the case since in the TIR software where I saw my 'virtual head' moving in 6DOF. But the strangest thing was that yesterday I did everything from updating drivers and restaring my computer back and forths till midnight and nothing helped. I got tired and went to bed and this morning when I tried it worked like a charm. Go figure! Thanks a lot for your help anyway and bless this day! =) What all this means is that my shark will fly it's maiden voyage today, yeehaa!
JG14_Smil Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 disable the roll feature on the TIR... you'll be happier in BS.

After i look around, you know up/down/back/zoom in, it takes an effort to look down! i have to bring my chin all the way down to touch my upper chest in order to see!! it isn't right! and when i centre the camera with F12, it looks like my head/view is inline with the HUD! too high! that's why i struggle to look down! Please help. Press "Center" for the TIR - default key is F12. TIR needs to be re-centered quite often if you jump around in the cockpit too mutch. The mind is like a parachute. Hi, I do recentre but then my view is a little bit high almost inline with the HUD which makes looking down tiring on my neck. Panzertard Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Hi, I do recentre but then my view is a little bit high almost inline with the HUD which makes looking down tiring on my neck. Thats why I always look up a bit extra when I re-center. So when you look forward in a more "natural" direction I see the instruments as well. And bonded with the fact that I zoom out a bit so I get better overview over the cockpit. The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning

Panzertard Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 is youtube video good! or has to be a track? Track is better / smaller. We will still see you headmovement/TIR motion. Try to record when you reset your view as well - curious on how that affects you. And of course what you do to end up "this badly". The mind is like a parachute. InFireBaptize Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 i like the profile i downloaded from trackir website better "Seth-Flight". But thank you again 104Cdt for the initiatives. Panzertard I got it. I looked above hud a little bit then centred trackir, this way i don't have to bring my neck all the way to look down, but i have to recentre every time it's our of line. I dont have it too often - but it can happen as I light up a cigarette (bad habbits, I know), the sun hits interupts my TIR - or if I move around into extreme positions in my chair. I think this is mainly because TIR interprets the new positions - and then assigns it to the cockpit. Sometimes it can be our of range for the cockpit position / seating I guess. The extreme seating positions can possibly be avoided if you tune down your TIR setup - ranges - a bit. The light intrusion possibly cannot be avoided - TIR is doomed to misinterpret if the builtin filter cannot handle those extremly bright light sources. Oh, and check for other random lightsources behind you - I did have a lamp behind me at some stage. When someone passed it and it lit up again (from TIR point of view) it distrupted my TIR quite much. Use the View->"Tracking" monitor to check for intrusion when this happens - keep it running so you can monitor the situation. 1 The mind is like a parachute. There is no other light source visible "red dot" when i switched view in thrackir mind you one day i left the door to my left half open and the glass on the door was reflecting light on trackir reciever! Another problem i'm having is my clip often gets our of range! and track movements are suspended until i get the clip back in range! how can i experiment with ranges? Thank you. NaturalPoint - Seth Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 (edited) i have never seen equivalent settings in trackir 5, but when i get back home i will investigate, thanks a lot for your help. The same settings (a few have been renamed or removed because they were for old generation TrackIRs) are available in the Camera Tab in software version 5.x. The key setting for removing unwanted ambient light (when you seen more than three green dots in your Camera View window) is Light Filther Threshold. Turn it up to filter out more unwanted light--just not too high, or you can filter out light from the TrackClip too. If using the standard TrackClip, you can increase the IR Brightness setting while also increasing the Light Filter Threshold to optimize the camera against unwanted ambient light. ...Another problem i'm having is my clip often gets our of range! and track movements are suspended until i get the clip back in range! how can i experiment with ranges? If you have a TrackIR 5, it should be pretty difficult to move outside of its field of view, which is pretty large. If this is happening, make sure the camera is mounted and aimed so that it is centered on your TrackClip or TrackClip PRO. To confirm this, go into the Camera View (right click on right side display window, select Camera View) and make sure that that three green dots are centered in the view. If not, adjust your camera position and angle until they are. Edited December 30, 2009 by NaturalPoint - Seth added more feedback
EtherealN Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Also, as a further note, do mind the distance to the tracker. Until I finish building my new desk setup I am forced to sit pretty close to my screen, placing the TrackIR at less than two feet, which is less than optimal. Get 3-4 feet to your tracking unit and it's very difficult to go outside it even on the old TrackIR4.
