is development on DCS:BS done? I admit i find 99% of the sim fantastic and honestly think it is amazing that this product launched and patched to near perfection so quickly. There are; however, just a few tiny niggling things I'd like to still see patched/improved... ground explosions for example as well as the ka50 - post crash debris/hulk or improved infantry animations. Admittidly, these are graphical improvements which do not affect gameplay but effect immersion nonetheless.

Do we have to rely upon the mod community to see these improved or is ED still paying a bit of attention to this wonderful sim?

I for myself would expect no further development on the Ka-50 itself, merely (hopefully) on the engine as the DCS series evolves.

I think the DCS:BS module is just about done.

That doesnt mean however that it wont improve anymore on most of the points you mentioned.

"ground explosions for example as well as the ka50 - post crash debris/hulk"

I think they keap developing these graphical eyecandy in futher modules and will make an patch every now and then to keap the previous modules up to spec. Its more an game engine in this case that needs modification instead of the BS simulation that needs to be altered

"improved infantry animations"

I can live whit the animations, i would just like em to become smarter, which is yet again not linked to the BS in any way. Its something from the engine that most likely will improve over time. Hopefully also for the BS module

I doubt we'll really see great difference in the graphical area until they release the new DCS engine a few modules down the line. The one they use now is simply an upgraded version of the old LockOn engine and has its limitations on on how much eyecandy it can pull off.

It is still not clear if there will ever be a total rewritten engine or a continuous update of the current one. The 'simple upgrade' you talk about already runs under Dx9 and there is A LOT that upgrades can improve without a total rewrite being necessary.

There are already major differences between LO and the current DCS incarnation, especially when speaking about shading.
