Weakstick Tero Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Just curious. I am at work and would sure like to play this game on my lap top in a small window so I can hurry and change over to my email if need be. Does anybody know how to change it like this?
L4key Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 People will get suspiscious of your joystick, throttle and track-ir though! Unless your job is a UAV pilot ;) Arf! Sorry, no practical advice as I don't know :(
Weakstick Tero Posted December 22, 2009 Author Posted December 22, 2009 LOL- Yeah I am a beginner so I was just thinking about watching all the training clips and just messing around w it. 1
Weakstick Tero Posted December 22, 2009 Author Posted December 22, 2009 How does the track IR work. Is it worth the cash?
Griffin Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 (edited) There is an option in the options to run the sim in a windowed mode. I'm not sure but I bet you can resize the window and have the rest of Windows programs at your disposal all the time. About TrackIR, if you are even half serious about simming, it's a must have right after a joystick! It will bring a whole new dimension to simming and there is no going back. EDIT: Tried it and it's not possible to resize the window on the fly but it sure is possible to run it in a windowed mode which should help you. Edited December 22, 2009 by Griffin
L4key Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 It detects the motion of your head so you can 'look' around the cockpit, zooming in and out as well. Rather than use the mouse. I don't have it (yet) but everyone raves about it so it won't be long before I'm in the club. This sim has the best cockpit interaction and realism already - so I imagine it's unbelievably good with track ir. The only way I know to 'duck out' of the screen is to press 'alt-tab' which minimises and switches you to desktop. That might work?

I just got done watching you tube videos of the Track IR and I guess it can also help in Shooter games as well. Ordering one right now. Also, I tried Alt-tab and it works ok just when you are loading something it does not change over right away but good enough. Thanks
Griffin Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Use the windowed mode. Isn't that what you wanted?
CyBerkut Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 As an alternative to Alt-Tab'ing: 1. Use the windowed mode, which should expose your Windows task bar if you have it setup accordingly. 2. If you have not done so yet, add the "show desktop" shortcut/icon to your quick launch bar (down by the Windows "Start" button). 3. When you need to 'clear your desktop' in a hurry, you can just click on the "show desktop" icon on the quick launch bar. For extra fast -ahem- clearing, leave the mouse cursor parked on the show desktop icon when you aren't using the mouse for other things. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] There's no place like 127.0.0.1
Waldo_II Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 The windowed mode works great. I don't think you can resize the window like regular windows, but you can change the resolution in the video settings, and that in turn changes the size of the window. And TrackIR/Freetrack doesn't just help. No, the word "help" doesn't have enough letters in it to express the helpfulness of head-tracking. Once you start using it, you don't go back. If I start a mission and my headtracking setup isn't running, it is an automatic mission abort. No exceptions. It is a completely different game. You don't have to be scared by TrackIR's expensive equipment. For about $10, I built my own head tracking setup with the open-source alternative Freetrack. Construction isn't anything difficult, although it takes more setup than TrackIR. I mean, as you can see I just cut up some pens and ran wire through them, and held it together with hot glue. By default, DCS only supports TrackIR, not Freetrack, but that can be fixed with a popular hack.
PoleCat Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 How does the track IR work. Is it worth the cash? Yes! Every last penny.:) Out http://www.104thphoenix.com/
JG14_Smil Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 use a smaller resolution than your desktop and BS will be in a small window. Runs quite well that way.
