I saw this (below) in the FAQ area and my setup is a HP duo core cpu running 2.2ghz 3g ram, gtx250,Vista OS. My question is, will this method work for my setup for better game performance and HOW do i set the affinity for DCS?

Thanks

Q: Does DCS: Black Shark take advantage of multi-core processors

A: DCS: Black Shark uses a modified version of The Fighter Collection Simulation Engine (TFCSE), which was not originally designed to take advantage of multi-core processor technologies. Nevertheless, such systems do generally provide better game performance as a result of their native capabilities.

11/20/08 EDIT:

You can try manually setting the core affinity for DCS to all of the CPU cores, which may boost your game performance. To do this, Alt-Tab out of a running mission, set the CPU affinity for DCS and Alt-Tab back in. You will have to do this every time you run the sim

I set it once and It's used multi cores just fine even since. It only uses two of the four though. I gained twice the FPS after doing it. Wend from 15-20 FPS to 30-40 most of the time.

Use version 1.0.1. It'll set affinity on it's own.

Do a search for dcsmax works very well for setting your CPU cores. This way you don have to alt tab out of the game to set the cores and it launches Tir for you if you forget to start it.

I think based on what EtheralN said, DCSMax isn't required if you patch to 1.0.1

Indeed, it's not strictly required.

I still use DCSMax for other advantages though, such as ensuring that TS and TrackIR get started up (I forget such things easily). It's still a handy program, but not anymore towards the purpose of handling affinity.

no it is not required. But 1.0.1 defaults to the 0 and 1 core for dule core users. and XP users still have no binifet from multy core use. So the 1.0.1 makes no difrince to XP users. DCSMax alowes you to select the cores you want to use insted of being forced to use the core the windowes is using (core 0). so select core 2,3 or 3,4 and you will have a slight gain for vista and 7 users. But XP users will see a big help by 7-10FPS in game by taking DCS off the 0 core.

Alternatively, the autoexec.cfg file can be set (modified) to use (quad) cores 1, 2, 3, (or any combination) leaving core 0 for the operating system.

as always... make a copy of the original file first and put it somewhere safe.

Thanks StrongHarm, i read your link about affinity and to tell you the truth this is way over my head to comprehend and attemp by myself without help... I'm running Vista with a dual core, 2.2 ghz 3mb mem, can these changes still help my case? I'm getting aprx. 25 FPS while hovering and taxing around base with a glitch here and there but at higher altitudes in open areas i've seen as high 50-60 fps. all this is on medium settings. note that I have not flown any missions or seen explosions or any performance draining graphics yet. Also will my performance drop when I use TRACKIR 5?
