sgtmike74 Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 I've started using the ABRIS for plotting targets from Bullseye. If it's a way off I go ahead and punch it up as a TGT in the PVI and let the autopilot fly me 3/4 the way there. I'm still not sure what the sub-mode, with all of the different colored squares, is used for though... 1
Frederf Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Thanks Frederf! 1. So the SEARCH list is limited to 9 positions? The manual doesn't mention that. Today I tried again. Previously Maykop rampstart with ground power and INU*. This time with AC setup to takeoff from runway (all running and configured) and both Karsnodar airfields were listed at positions 2 and 3. Yup, one page of results. Notice that #1 is the closest, #2 is farther away, etc., and #9 is the farthest of the lot. 2. ANSWERED: Yes, but it needs an additional comment - the searching is performed by ICAO airfields codes. KRSN, Krasnodar, MIL URKR, Krasnodar - Pashkovsky, CIV That's why when I entered 'KR' in the SEARCH-NAME field onyl KRSN, Krasnodar, MIL showed up. Seems so. You'd think the real ABRIS AMMS would search by the entire name string so "ANA" should result in Anapa Airport, but that's just the gut talking. 3. Yes, but it doesn't revert to the initial/default mode (MAP MOTION = TRUE) when I finish using the INFO or SEARCH functions. Looks like a bug to me as there are no alternative ways to exit these functions. Fastest solution: Cycle through all the operation modes (press [5] few times). I see what you mean. That's either an oversight by ED or the folks that make the ABRIS AMMS. You'd definitely think once you return to an airframe-centric map view it would follow the map orientation preference. * additional question then - why do I need INU (if I need it) to just fiddle with ABRIS when it should acquire AC position from GNSS satelites? For some reason battery+ABRIS means no satellites. However K-041 powers the antenna or whatever and you get satellites. However once you turn K-041 on and ABRIS gets some satellites, you can turn everything off and then just do battery+ABRIS and it gets satellites. Even without satellites the ABRIS appears to show perfect position anyway.
Bucic Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Thanks for your input, Frederf! For some reason battery+ABRIS means no satellites. However once you turn K-041 on and ABRIS gets some satellites, you can turn everything off and then just do battery+ABRIS and it gets satellites. Even without satellites the ABRIS appears to show perfect position anyway. But what does INU have to do with it? On top of that in one of the official training vids Wags mentions that some parameters on ABRIS are unstable because the INU hadn't finished the alignment procedure yet, IIRC. m0jo Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Even without satellites the ABRIS appears to show perfect position anyway. ABRIS don't display the correct position without ~4 satellites, go deep in a valley and hover, the position on the abris will drift.
Bucic Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 IIRC the minimum number of satelites is number_of_dimensions+1=2+1=3 F-5E simpit cockpit dimensions and flight controls Kill the Bloom - shader glow mod Poor audio Doppler effect in DCS [bug] Trees - huge performance hit especially up close
m0jo Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 A fourth satelites is needed to correct the inacurate receiver's clock: https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Gps#Correcting_a_GPS_receiver.27s_clock
dooom Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Currently I have TWO Favorite functions in the ABRIS. 1. SUSP/ERBL for ETA communications whilst online. 2. RELATIVE DATA POINT INSERT. (RDP) The RDP function is ridiculously awesome... especially if you are currently flying on the 51st server in Foxtrot Charlie or the Moonlight missions. Basically, these missions give many JTAC type calls with range/bearings from a waypoint to find targets. by using RDP functionality, i can place a mark on abris exactly where i need ot go without having to return to the bullseye/reference waypoint. Here's how: JTAC to ka50: targets are 276 degrees for 21 from WPT 4. To put this on ABRIS: - From MENU screen select PLAN FSK. - In PLAN, hit far left FSK (SELECT i think) and use right dial to scroll to ADD INF, right click on right dial. - Hit left FSK and choose RELATIVE - Hit TYPE FSK to choose type of point youre adding. - Hit >> FSK to select different lines. Name your target group. - Hit >> FSK to get to Waypoint line. Use right dial to dial in 00004 for WPT 4 and hit SEARCH FSK. - Hit >> FSK to Bearing line and enter 276 with right dial. - Hit >> FSK to distance line and enter 021 with right dial. - Hit ENTER FSK. Now go back to your MAP screen and voila' you have a nice marker right on your ABRIS where the target group is. This only takes about 15 seconds to enter once youre used to it and makes the missions simply awesome and immersive. Bucic Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 doom, ERBL is faster for the purpose: - NAV - MAP - ERBL - set cross cursor in the point of reference (WPT4 in your case) - MARKER - now the line starts from the selected point and you can just move the new cursor around to get a rough bearing and distance F-5E simpit cockpit dimensions and flight controls Kill the Bloom - shader glow mod Poor audio Doppler effect in DCS [bug] Trees - huge performance hit especially up close
dooom Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 yeah rough - i used to do it that way until I got tired of having to redo it a million times. This way if i rtb for ammo/fuel its always there and I can easily mark while in flight in Route mode.
