The Flying Goose Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Basically it started off as browsing Google maps in the Nevada Desert area when I stumbeled on a small, untitled dirt airstrip with no basic things you'd expect to see at an airfield like ATC or barracks or fuel. Secondly, there were several aircraft which appeared to be stationary. An aircraft sitting at the parking area appeared to be an A-10. So, as I'm almost 110% positive that this is not any sort of real airstrip, what is it?:helpsmilie:. Is it some sort of Red Flag training airfield to attack? See for yourself by Googling 37.403983,-116.23827 in goolge maps. Thank you for any feedback:) Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz, Sapphire 5870, TM Warthog, 4 GB RAM, Windows 7

Brit_Radar_Dude Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 (edited) The one you quoted 37.403983,-116.23827 look like a target range. Might be A-10's, more likely something older, perhaps T-33's or similar. On one of other taxiways are a couple of A-4's? Hard to say, cant quite zoom in far enough. Lots of other interesting and odd looking stuff all around that area. 37.364671,-116.833638 - This seems to be a Soviet style airfield target too. The Flying Goose Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 (edited) Ok, so a simple training range. Thank you Wags:) @Deadman where do you see that this is Tonapah Test Range? From what I see Tonapah Test Range is away to the south. Maybe you are correct, however where it actually says the range is, is some 20-30 mi. south. Nonetheless, back to you, Mr. Wagner (or whomever else feels inclined enough) not to be pushy, but maybe you can tell me this, at 37.233745,-115.798817, what is this? There are a few big jets, maybe 737's, a couple of military jets on the more Northwest area, and what might just be a Black Hawk. There are also a few big radars set up (check out the shadows). Lastly it looks like there is something being constructed. The only reason I wonder is because of the mysteriousness as there are no labels set up on google :smilewink: Edit: this is Groom Lake aka Area 51 if not mistaken... figures Edited February 15, 2010 by The Flying Goose Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz, Sapphire 5870, TM Warthog, 4 GB RAM, Windows 7

The Flying Goose Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 Ay, I see what you're saying Deadman, but whenever I type in the coords I get the Red "A" and a nice green arrow at the actual location. Even if for some reason that does not happen to you, you should be able to go maybe some 30 miles north to find the actaul range :) Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz, Sapphire 5870, TM Warthog, 4 GB RAM, Windows 7
Brit_Radar_Dude Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Google maps tries to give you a pointer (the Red marker) to something it knows some details about. in the middle of nowhere in nevade, that is likely to be miles away, and in this case always seems to be Tonapah Test Range. The green marker points to the actual co-ords you give it. but maybe you can tell me this, at 37.233745,-115.798817, what is this? Yeah, that place is your basic conspiracy theory location - Groom Lake / Area Cinquante et Un / Crop Circle Central........call it what you will. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose!
