Lanzfeld Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 (edited) Hey, Very new to FC. I am just getting into building some training missions now and I have a few questions about airport ops in the game. 1. Does wind direction effect the runway in use or does tower always assign the same runway?:pilotfly: 2. Has anyone talked about the insantity of asking for takeoff clearance AFTER taking the active runway? Seems this bug should have been caught early. I know FC is not an ATC sim but this one is a big mistake! Thanks! Edited March 5, 2010 by Lanzfeld
pauldy Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 1. Yes it does. 2. I usually ask take off clearance just before entering the active runway if my jet starts from the parking areas. Otherwise I'd just take off when my jet is already on the active runway. Air traffic control in Lock On is pretty much useless anyway.. and gets confusing at times. They even report enemy aircraft as Traffic entities  [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Brit_Radar_Dude Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 1. Does wind direction effect the runway in use? Fun to land on some runways with ILS when you have swapped the direction of landing by using the wind direction. It is more interesting if we let you find out yourself at which air bases the ILS will try to guide you into a hill ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum....

Lanzfeld Posted March 5, 2010 Author Posted March 5, 2010 Also, It seems that wingman will takeoff with out you then join you in the air? No formation takeoff?
Lanzfeld Posted March 5, 2010 Author Posted March 5, 2010 Also..... I am using a 1920 x 1080 lcd. Do I set 1.777777777 is my graphics config under aspect?

pauldy Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 No formation take off.. unfortunately AI are always on the rush to take off and burn away precious gas at an impractical rate.. (high usage of burners) Another thing, especially if you're in a 3 or 4 ship flight on the active runway.. Take off as quickly as you can or number 3 & 4 will ram you and number 2 in the tail feathers.. (doesn't really occur everytime but it does most of the time..) on side note, I hope these bugs were addressed in FC 2.0 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Grimes Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 No formation take off.. unfortunately AI are always on the rush to take off and burn away precious gas at an impractical rate.. (high usage of burners) Thats why I tend to give them a slow and close waypoint near the base, that way they don't waste as much fuel.... But they are pretty bad about going to burners... for A2A if they have an enemy target within the engagement zone they go full AB to get there, it doesn't matter how far the enemy is. They will go full AB for 200nm if they have to. Also when given a refueling order, they go full AB to get to the tanker... even if they are low on gas. Does ILS still put you into a hill? For a few airbases the AI will land and takeoff from the same direction (takeoff toward south, land from the south) no matter what you do to the wind. Which tends to cause fender benders if an AI is landing and another is on the taxiway. lol, just realized some of the stuff I said was specific to DCS :D But in that case *should* be similar to what we get in FC2. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. Gotta play with wind settings a bit to make sure it's true as I rarely use Sochi for takeoff and landing. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Brit_Radar_Dude Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 I seem to recall with Sochi-Adler that no matter what direction of wind you set up, it always sends you in from the sea, it was only G*** that was the issue. N*** was nail bitingly close too. As for interesting landings without changing the landing direction, Gaudata is always fun if you land at night with poor vis as the lighthouse suddenly looms out of the dark at you... Griffin Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 For the question one, if Lock On has exactly the same ATC engine, it doesn't assign the runway according to wind. I haven't found any logic in it in DCS. Today I landed with tailwind but took off into headwind after rearming.
