Downey Jr. Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 found this on YouTube the other dayhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UK9yNloOrA0&feature=player_embedded# remember TFX? oh man...I heard the soundtrack there and I cried a lil...was trying to hold it in but then I just sobbed for ...hours... anyways EF 2000 v.2.0 however ranks as my top 5 favorite sims of all time...I played that so much more than Falcon 4 unfortunately... F22 ADF the supposed sequel to EF2k was not that great I thought...it was pretty popular in head 2 head online matches where you'd see like 10 other players ...many were quite good. which now reminds me when I used to do multiplayer X Wing Alliance...but thats really off topic now ;)
Pilotasso Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Internet arrived too late for me to have played those on multiplayer...sad...:( .
Scudslaker Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 yes great times we had together me and my TFX series, even f14 Fleet Defender was one great Sim, too Thx for sharing your find!) M31 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I remember TFX and F-29 Retaliator very well, in fact I recently bought a retro Amiga 500 bundle from the Bay that came with F-29 Retaliator and I've bought F-18 Interceptor, Flight of the Intruder and F-19 Stealth Fighter from Ebay too, to relive my first ever Flight Sim experiences 20 years ago. I did have dial up internet when EF2000 came out, had great fun online and offline with it. DID made awesome flight sims as did Microprose ... I'm so glad ED are still flying the flag for us military Flight Sim enthusiasts. Ahh ... memory's :)

BTTW-DratsaB Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I remember seeing adverts for TFX for Amiga in Amiga Format. Alas, it never came, I used to drool over the screen shots :). I think it was released eventually but not through official channels. Standard Amiga just didn't have the HP to run it. Downey Jr. Posted March 31, 2010 Author Posted March 31, 2010 hehe...oh man F-19 Stealth Fighter...I think that was my first sim I remember watching my dad (luckily for me is a computer engineer) load it for the first time one night when I was 6 or 7 YouTube >> I played the hell out of that game, then moved on to the early Microsoft FS which frankly was a HUGE pain to figure out and fly and then Falcon 3.0 was the big one for me (I think I did have Falcon AT) I never got Fleet Defender because I felt I was betraying Spectrum Holobyte ...there was fierce competition between Microprose and SH (Microprose made Fleet Defender right?) ironic what happened later anyways HOWEVER the game that still to this day has wow'ed me the most in terms of graphics and gameplay has been EF2000 v2.0 with a Rendition or 3Dfx card the game looked BEAUTIFUL Blackshark I must say is the first simulator since EF2000 that I've been blown away by the graphics and gameplay. I must say in a similar fashion FSX has really stuck with me and I've been playing it again alot

I had FS2 on the Amiga. I loved F/14 Fleet Defender, still have the final CD release of Fleet Defender Gold with its add on and some multimedia vids, also loved 1942 Pacific Air War (PAW) Microprose made some classics for sure ... In fact I'd love it if these were remade with the only changes being to modernise the graphics. For a while I'd not played any military Flight Sims at all, mostly FSX and its predecessors, but in the last year or so I've been drifting back ... I sense the combat sim era making a come back, what with FC2, Black Shark, RoF and other military sims on the horizon, also we are being treated to so much new military sim hardware ... and we have computers that can finally run the current sims perfectly well, back in the day the PC's of the time really struggled. These are good times we live in Bro  Edited March 31, 2010 by M31

topdog Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 (edited) Hmm, I will have to dig that out.. I have the CD version of the music tucked away somewhere :) I don't know if I still have it, but I had some silly promo material for TFX before launch at the time (one of the perks of being in video games retail at the time), posters, a video (long since gone, viv la VHS,), and a postcard that I should still have somewhere of a loo with a brick placed down the pan. Caption atop the postcard was "DID - You will...". Small things, but made us feel special :D Edited April 1, 2010 by topdog [ i7 2600k 4.6GHz :: 16GB Mushkin Blackline LV :: EVGA GTX 1080ti 11GB ] [ TM Warthog / Saitek Rudder :: Oculus Rift :: Obutto cockpit :: Acer HN274H 27" 120Hz :: 3D Vision Ready ]
Avimimus Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Ef-2000 is definitely one of the top sims made. I think it even tops my first sim (SWOTL). The Fjords! Diving through clouds to loose IR missiles. Lonely, isolated battle damaged flights home from the north... and the music. The days when designers could guesstimate so much - without becoming arcadish. The sheer style.
Scudslaker Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 yes, Fleet Defender was from Micropose,..great f14 sim with pilot cockpit view and WSO view and functionality. big sim for me, efore i get Falcon3.0 as well it was a nice step forward to have refueling planes inside a sim,..i spend a lot of time with those sims..but do you pilots remember the hexagon kartel? i think it was build by astragon a german game publisher in 1995 or so. i loved the flying experience, first "rendered" bullet falling to the ground when firing the cannon..and there had been plenty of helicopter modells inside you had to fly in the missions..but best of all was the training moe of the game. flying the huey with external loads through courses and with real feeling..as i remember. i really miss to get transporters flyable in LOMAC!) on both fixed and rotary wings..whould be awsome to get cover in multiplayer while doing your job cheers and a sunny easter weekend to you pilots TM HOTAS WH :joystick:, Saitek Pro Pedals, Track IR 4, 2xJoyWarrier, 1x KeyWarrior, i52500k @4600MHz, ASUS P8Z68-V Pro, NV 670GT, SSD+ WD BC+ WD Raptor, 32HD:pilotfly:[sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
