ScEBlack1 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Like the "M" for time to pitbull counter in the Eagle's 120, does the R77 for the Mig have a counter for when the missle is on active guidance or is it on "off the rail" ? truly fire and forget or is there a timer, if so were exactly? thanks all.
ScEBlack1 Posted April 5, 2010 Author Posted April 5, 2010 "As the missile comes within 20 km (12.42 mi) of its target, the missile is guided by a nose-mounted terminal active radar" Is this correct in game as well? is there any timer type countdown visual to see in the plane itself?
104th_Crunch Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 In FC1 the range to active for the R77 was similar to the AIM120, about 8nm or 18KM. I believe it's the same in FC2. No there is no counters in the MiG or Su27 in the sim. You must manually judge.

I wouldn't be surprised by either yes or no 2nd French Fighter Squadron
Sov13t Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Yes there are. Time till impact counters - definitely. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 51st PVO Regiment | Forum | Statistics DCS: MiG-21Bis
Vekkinho Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Yes there are. Time till impact counters - definitely. No there's not...at least not with the 9.12 or 9.13 variants you have available in FC2.0. However, M and latter "glass cockpit" upgrades like K/M2/SMT might have some kind of a counter but not these two! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
RedTiger Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Yes there are. Time till impact counters - definitely. Yeah, isn't it called a stop watch? :smartass: OP: one of the often-referenced reasons for the stop watch on the clocks in the Russian planes is for estimating time to impact. Those stop watches are/were operational in the sim.
Sov13t Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Sorry, didn't specify - the SU-27 does have count down timer displayed on the HUD after missile launch. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 51st PVO Regiment | Forum | Statistics DCS: MiG-21Bis
Vekkinho Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 ^^^^ Su-27P or SM?! Funny 'cause "timers" are only good with ARH missiles and AFAIK there's no such thing with Su-27P we fly in FC2.0. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Sov13t Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 (edited) The SU-27SK (Serial Kommercial) version as well as SU-27S (Serial) both have time to impact timers on the hud. Below is the excerpt from the SU-27SK declassified manual: Number 28. Time left till the missile intercepts the target. And also, as far as I know what is modeled in the game is in fact SU-27S (Serial) not P (PVO) if it was indeed model P then we would have no Ground Attack capabilities and would have a refueling probe. Enjoy. Edited April 6, 2010 by Sov13t 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 51st PVO Regiment | Forum | Statistics DCS: MiG-21Bis
Breakshot Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 (edited) Perhaps something for ED to consider adding now that its clearly defined and illustrated to be there!? Surely it shouldnt be hard to adopt such a timer... Or are there reasons for not doing so? Would be nice to at least have some new, even something as little as this feature added on Su-27, considering the huge boost the F15 just got, and to some extend the Mig with its 6 P-77s... Especially now that ERs are pretty much our most vital weapon and hanging on to it for too long or not long enough is the difference between life and speedy ARMAAM death... :) Surely that would make lots of RuFOR flanker pilots feel alittle more appreciated!
