Bisch Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 Hi, as fans of Blackshark (still not very good in it though) we stepped into the world of LockOn/FC looking forward to "THE" patch. Our main experience in the world of simulations are on the road, under the water and in the skys of WWI and WWII. We know quite a bit about modern planes and how stuff works. We also know how to use the FC planes in general but beside finding coop missions we have the problem that we don't know how to succesfully plan and fly a mission. Right know we wanted to stick to some very basic stuff like dumb bombs, unguided rockets and laser guided weapons without optical sensors. That's why we did go for the SU25 first. We generally fly towards the target area, try to fly low and in valleys but as soon as we reach the ground targets, the IR guided weapons take us out very quickly. Popping flares like crazy doesnt help (very long). Using laser guided missiles looks difficult enough in a Su25T but I dont know how I should ever hit ground targets with such an inaccurate aiming method. For the use of rockets and bombs I have to get dangerously close to the targets (BTW: Why do I have to be in a shallow dive to be allowed to drop bombs? Yea I know I better should be) So where could I get some general tactical advice? Same applies for other scenarios (A2A) for us too I guess after we ll switch to that. Looking forward to your advice! Mirtma Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 (edited) Did you look at training videos on LockOn Site? http://lockon.co.uk/index.php?end_pos=1852&scr=default and at flankertraining.com: http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/a2g.htm Edited May 13, 2010 by Mirtma Adding link Gigabyte Z490 Gaming X | i5 10600K@4700 | 32 Gb DDR4 @ 3200Mhz | Gigabyte Aorus GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11G | MONITOR IIYAMA 24,5" LED LCD @ 1920 x 1080 | Windows 11 | Saitek X-55 Rhino | TrackIR 5 Pro
Bisch Posted May 13, 2010 Author Posted May 13, 2010 Did you look at training videos on LockOn Site? http://lockon.co.uk/index.php?end_pos=1852&scr=default and at flankertraining.com: http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/a2g.htm Thanks for the links! I know both websites and I did watch some of the stuff. Most of the videos I have seen have been about "How to" in a technical way. I guess I should watch some more... winz Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 (edited) , the IR guided weapons take us out very quickly. Popping flares like crazy doesnt help (very long). Popping flares like crazy doesn't realy help much. You need to know what you're doing and how to trick the missile. I would suggest you (this is what I did and it helped me alot) to create a simple training mission, just you airborne with one IR SAM system. Set yourself invicible (so you don't have to reset the mission after each hit) and try to dodge as many missiles as possible. After a while you will see a pattern in the missile behaviour and your survivability will increase dramatically. You will also get under skin how much energy has the missile left. (BTW: Why do I have to be in a shallow dive to be allowed to drop bombs? Yea I know I better should be) I would say it hat alot to do with SU25 balistic computer (doesn't know if it even have one). You don't have to be in shallow dive in the A10. edit: You can also search the forum for A10 campaign mission reports, they helped me a lot in the way of how to approach a mission and how to enter a hot zone. Bisch Posted May 13, 2010 Author Posted May 13, 2010 Thanks winz! Lava Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 Don't expect to be able to take out SAMS in a regular SU-25. I think it'd be pretty suicidal to send a flight of SU-25's over any SAMs, especially IR ones. Ideally you have aircraft with stand-off capability and zoom capability to spot the SAMS and take them out from a distance. Su-25T, A-10, Ka-50 are good examples. Try the training missions that have you running up against undefended targets if you want good practice with unguided munitions. Speaking from multiplayer experience, the only time unguided munitions are used is when all surface-to-air threats are eliminated! Advanced techniques by advanced pilots might be a different story of course :) In some cases you -might- be able to climb above the firing altitude of a SAM and be able to CCRP bomb it.
