Frederf Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 It's not awful, just noticed is all. It means that DCS:BS players take longer to ramp because our AC voltage systems can't come online until after we get both engines started and up to full power.
26-J39 Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Forgive my ignorance but I can see why ramp with turbo gear (AC) would reduce time, apart from programming the UV-26 prior to full engine power. Isn't turbo gear mainly for testing systems and fiddling in cockpit when engines are off?
Frederf Posted May 20, 2010 Author Posted May 20, 2010 Turbo gear is a way of letting the APU do the normal work of the main engines in terms of generators and hydraulics. This is not what I mean when I say "ground power." I refer to ground AC and DC electrical connections that the Ka-50 can take advantage of in order to achieve mission ready status at more rapid pace than bringing the engines online and then the electrical systems online sequentially. These ground power connections are usually trucks with generators that plug into ports on the side of the Ka-50 which fully energizes all buses without any engines running.
Grimes Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 (edited) Quite sure my missions on the 3Sqn server have all of the additional Ammo, Fuel, Power, and Repair resources near the farps for Ka-50s. I have had a few issues of the Static objects related to resources not actually do what they are supposed to. I understand this and is correct..:) AFAIK ground power is a DC external supply (really no use in sim as the KA-50 has batteries) and turbo gear supplies AC power. I simply can't see how you would be able to ramp faster because your AC power is connected before the engines are spooled up to full power?

External AC power allows you to power up the navigation systems such as the primary ADI, HSI (not the INU) and start them aligning prior to having the engines running at flight idle. This can shorten the start up procedure by several minutes.

Frederf Posted May 21, 2010 Author Posted May 21, 2010 I'm perfectly aware of what's required. Just trying to wake up FC2 mission makers that it can be done.
BKLronin Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 I made the experience that Greound power is still available on most servers like 104th phoenix and STP servers with one little difference. You have to ask the groundcrew for external power first. Means it´s there but before the patch it was already enabled without asking the crew. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Frederf Posted May 30, 2010 Author Posted May 30, 2010 Interesting. I thought it was hard-coded that ground power, if available, was connected on mission start. My experiences were primarily on the 104th so perhaps there was ground power available on request.
BKLronin Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 Yes I flew past days on 3 of the larger servers and they all had Ground power on request. I was first a little confused but I asked the ground crew for help and they did. Since my abris and Targeting system is switched on before any APu or engine sequences I would be dissapointed if not available. Now it´s already in the procedure #, F10, F4, F1 !Copy! There he goes! :pilotfly: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
nemises Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 yes, ground power needs to be connected by requesting from the maintainence mode now since the latest patch. great stuff
Frederf Posted June 2, 2010 Author Posted June 2, 2010 Yeah, the light bulb just went on for me too. Patch 1.02 changed the ground power off by default. I'm pretty sure that wasn't in the patch notes.
