Okay--title was cheesy, sorry.

I decided to focus my efforts on learning the Su-25t--with the AFM, and I'm having some troubles. The good part is, most of my troubles are due to realistic features (not bugs, as I had originially thought)--which make it more challenging--and therefore more satisfying once I've achieved something. Please help me achieve something!

I flew my first combat mission last night--and had MAJOR trouble flying my aircraft after engaging and disengaging the autopilot. I have since come to find out that the autopilot manipulates the trim settings (to what setting I have no idea) and I have to retrim the aircraft from scratch in order to keep the nose of the frog in the same direction.

Once I reached the IP, I go to ground attack mode--and this is where the real fun begins--I can't fly the frog (straight and level) and also use the TV for targeting--heck, I'm challenged to even fly the aircraft straight and level without other people trying to kill me!

If this is realism--how do the real pilots do it? I've tried the auto-level pilot--and that takes quite some time to level out--and forget about evasive manuevering--by the time it's straight and level, I'm evading SAMS, and trying to reset the trim back to normal!

It's hopeless, really. I'm finding this aircraft too difficult to fly in a combat situation--my workload should be on weapon's systems, not trimming the aircraft!

Just my two cents--I really enjoy flying the frog with the AFM--

Any advice on combat tactics would be much appreciated!

I haven't gotten 1.1 yet, but does the reset trim feature work with the 25t? That's how I fix all my trim troubles with the other aircraft.

They took the reset trim command out for the Frog--as apparently, IRL, it doesn't have such a function :icon_jook . Basically you have to assign a key for each trim--as IRL it is a push button function--no analog axis can be used either.

Therefore, I have no idea where the trim is set after using the autopilot--and I have to guess, e.g., that I should trim down on the pitch to get it towards the middle--and hope I'm right. Finally, after a few minutes--in a NON-combative enivornment, I can figure it out--there are three green lights that indicate you are at the default configuration for trim--but man--I can't be messing about with this stuff when I'm trying to target SAMS and such on the battlefield! Thus, my problem.

Don't use the trim during combat... get off autopilot way before getting to attack point, so you can reset the trim. Also IIRC to make Su-25t fly a bit easier, use flaps... They help...

Try "Emeregency level" mode - it will "autotrim" the aircraft in bank channel.

As Biolog said, dont use any autopilot modes in combat :) .

Also when engaging using the Shkval TV, simply keep the target cursor centered on the lower part of the HUD, point the nose of the aircraft downwards into the general direction of the target and press TAB-key to obtain ground stabilisation - then you can fly level while viewing the target area on the TV and make the final targeting adjustments with the cursor controls. It is actually quite easy when you get the hang of it :)

If you are engaging with laser guided weapons, keep in mind the laser timeout and only switch it on when you know that range to target falls within weapons launch range - otherwise you will be wasting precious laser operating time while closing in.

Yeah, for sure, this must be the reason why the training missions learn you how to first use Alt-4 for horizontal stability and Alt-1 to hold pitch before engaging the target designator ===> that's only meant for training of course!

So, now that I'm trained for training, how do I train for combat? Well, just by not using all these sophisticated modes, could have guessed so!

Mostly I try to reverse the effect of Alt-1 by pressing A to disengage autopilot alltogether and than try to get all the trimming right again before hitting the ground.

Thanks for the tips--I'm definately staying away from the autopilot for awhile :) I actually hit a target with a Kh-29L last night (a bridge)--but then got hit with a SAM. It would be extremely gratifying to hit the target, then actually land!
