kingneptune117 Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 I tried creating a server on my computer here at home. I went to server, then set up the mission and everything, clicked on internet, set it to a max of 2 players, and then entered in the password i wanted to use. he couldnt see the server. he did the same thing and i couldnt see his. How do i make a server? HiJack Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Google "port forward", find your router and forward port 10308 (or the port you have set in FC2) to your internal server where FC2 server is running. Start the server again and let it run for some time, the serverlist needs a bit of time ;)
Boberro Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Make sure your firewall passes movement. Untill I turn off firewall my server can't be seen in game browser too. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ

EtherealN Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Because when you connect to another server you have requested (initiated) contact from the master server that keeps a record of public servers. For anyone to be able to connect to your server however, their connection requests which have not been requested by your machine beforehand will have to reach it. If your machine is not on a direct fiber or has a switch or router between it and the internet, there is also the issue that people have to connect using your internet IP, but your server machine doesn't have a clue that it's behind that IP - it's on a LAN IP. For this reason the switch and/or router has to be instructed to pass on requests at a specific port to the LAN IP of your server. And finally, firewalls - they are there to hinder unwanted connections. If you do not tell your firewall that it's okey for random computers on the internet to ask to get a hookup on port 10308 the firewall will do it's job and block those connections from happening. When you connect to someone else's server, the firewall will know that it was you who requested said traffic and it will allow the traffic to happen. kingneptune117 Posted June 3, 2010 Author Posted June 3, 2010 ok, makes sense. I googled port forwarding and im still not understanding this :( "When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci Intel i7-4790k | Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo heat sink | Thermaltake Core V71 case | 750W EVGA PSU | 8gb G.SKILL Ripjaws DDR3 RAM | MSI Z97 Gaming 5 LGA 1150 motherboard | Samsung SSD | ASUS STRIX GTX 970 | Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog | TIR 5 | Razer Deathadder | Corsair K70
kingneptune117 Posted June 3, 2010 Author Posted June 3, 2010 I went into my wireless router settings, it asked me for a range of port numbers. I entered in 10307 to 10309. Then there was a box for an ip address. It showed almost a full IP except for like 3 other numbers which I had to enter. I just chose randomly and entered 200. I hit accept changes and it went through. Did I do it right? http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/5566/setupdr.jpg "When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci Intel i7-4790k | Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo heat sink | Thermaltake Core V71 case | 750W EVGA PSU | 8gb G.SKILL Ripjaws DDR3 RAM | MSI Z97 Gaming 5 LGA 1150 motherboard | Samsung SSD | ASUS STRIX GTX 970 | Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog | TIR 5 | Razer Deathadder | Corsair K70

The full IP address (including those last three digits) should be the full IP address of the machine that is hosting the server. If you don't know what that machine's IP address is, get it to a command prompt (DOS window) and type IPCONFIG and then press enter. Use that IP address. davebert Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 On WinXP go to CONTROL PANEL|NETWORK CONNECTIONS|LOCAL AREA CONNECTION and look on the lower left and you will see your IP address. db
EtherealN Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 What CyBerkut said. If you select at random, chances are 255 against 1 that what you did didn't help - but instead guaranteed that it will not work. Also, in the settings, ensure that you forward that port range on both TCP and UDP. So like this: Press Start In the search field, type "cmd", press enter in the black box, type "ipconfig", press enter That gives you the IP number, say 192.168.1.8 Now enter your switch/router, and forward port 10308 to that IP number. Note: if you have set your switch/router to assign IP numbers dynamically, this setting will have to be re-done every time you start up your computer. To avoid this, enter "connected devices" in the switch/router, find your computer, and then use the "MAC Adress" (nothing to do with Apple Macintosh) to set a reserved IP for your computer. That way the switch will recognize the computer and always assign that IP to it - as well as ensure that no other computer in the household steals that IP. Not quite sure what you mean by enter your switch/router, but I went to the website I showed in the previous picture and went ahead and entered in my IP address. When I used that command prompt it gave me two ip's, one was called default gateway, the other ip was called ipv4 address, wasnt sure which one to use. I went to the router website and i was able to find all the connected computers. Im robert, so im pretty sure thats the ip i should enter. I also have wireless. We have a computer downstairs that is directly hooked up to the router, im guessing that is the first one in the picture with the weird name. I use the Robert one, right? http://img441.imageshack.us/f/setup2n.jpg/ "When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci Intel i7-4790k | Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo heat sink | Thermaltake Core V71 case | 750W EVGA PSU | 8gb G.SKILL Ripjaws DDR3 RAM | MSI Z97 Gaming 5 LGA 1150 motherboard | Samsung SSD | ASUS STRIX GTX 970 | Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog | TIR 5 | Razer Deathadder | Corsair K70
