Flares on EOS / IRST ?

I know that the EOS of the MiG-29 and Su-27 can pick up other aircraft from many kilometers away, and even better from a chase position if the other ignites his afterburners.

 

But, even within very close ranges, the EOS will not show any flares or will stop tracking by flares fired.

 

Does the EOS simply ignore flares ?

I believe there are a few answers to this question...

 

First would be this is just the way it is implemented in this current version of the simulation.

 

Second I am sure there are algorithms in place to provide some sort of filtering for rapidly decelerating and losing their intensity flares.

Yup. You can actually lock a missile in EOS and launch on it. :)

True but the advent of "Lo rise Flares" was designed to complicate these sort of alogorithms ... the rapid bloom anyway

EOS shows missiles.

And not only that, you can tap the Radar key and get a IFF from the missiles. I never knew R-73's had IFF. :megalol:

It's not modeled, just like chaff not showing up on radar.
