159th_Royalman Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 That's kind of tiny to be the big dipper! Look up a bit more, and you'll see it 159th Guards Aviation Regiment | We fly Su33 - Su25T - Ka50 :pilotfly:
Case Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Here is a sort of it in FC2. Not really. What you are showing here is an open star cluster called the Pleiades. This is what the Big Dipper looks like. There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
Nate--IRL-- Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Edit:- too slow..... That's the Pleiades http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pleiades_(star_cluster) Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
Vekkinho Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 No that's not a big dipper Big dipper is a lot higher, closer to Zenith. It different in shape and it's tail points towards little dipper. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Brit_Radar_Dude Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Ages since we've had a thread about the Lockon night sky...... There was some discussion on the UBI forums back in 2004, and I seem to recall something a couple of years ago on this forum about emergency navigating using the stars at night, but I can't find it. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum....
Nate--IRL-- Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Well the 2 Rightmost stars of the big dipper point to Polaris, so you should be able to find North easily enough. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading

Robin_Hood Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 I don't know if it has been changed at all in FC2, but I remember that the Big Dipper, Polaris and all indeed present, but I felt it rather difficult to find them due to all stars having the same brightness (vs. for exemple ArmA II, where it is easier due to brightness being dependant on the particular star) 2nd French Fighter Squadron
