After flying around in the t-frog with the mercury pod, I noticed that I am able to spot targets very easily. I think this is a change from 1.12. Back then, it was pretty hard spotting targets. But now, I can easily spot targets from 30 km away, day or night. Vehicles almost seem to be litten up. While with the regular shkval, it is pretty difficult to see vehicles beyond 10 km due to vehicles becoming transperant. Is this a realistic representation of the mercury? I've ready a couple of posts saying that the mercury is pretty crappy in real life. Anyone have any info on this? For me, the mercury is alot more effective than the shkval.

Russians have created it for SU-25T cause they didn't have anything better at this time. During night attack they were almost blind.

I've read effective range of Merkurij is 3 km for a tank and 10-12 km for a bridge. Overall it is good for navigation only. There were also tests on Ka-50 but it was too heavy and not effetive so it was better to remove it.

Shkval has supposedly - don't know if it is true due to in Ka-50's Black Shark game Shkval (which is said it is realistic) looks like it has 1080p - ut in real life it has 320x200 resolution.

Don't know how units appear there in real life, however you can see how bad it does like on this screen:

. . . I found that Mercury, in day light, can spot the target up to 20 km, and by night, up to 10 km . . .

(couldn't find the type of targets visibility but 3 km even for Russian equipment is to small . . . just like ground visibility issue in FC2 :smilewink:)

PS. nice picture of T-55 with commander standing, where can I found a little beat more about this picture, where it was taken . . .

The best I did in FC 2 is set scenes to medium and visibility to high and that did the trick for me.

This is kinda related to the Shkval/LLTV pod topic at hand, have you guys tried changing the MFD values in graphics.cfg?

got mine set to:

MFD

{

L01 = 30000;

L12 = 50000;

it matches the terrain i see out of the window nicely, no more popping-up roads/rivers :)

Russians haven't resigned from Merkurij and its successor without reason. This reason is low battlefield effectivity.

Honestly I don't know... but if it is dummy I am suprised why did Russians make commander? What for? Maybe it is real usage of Shkval... or pilot was having fun :D

Anyway you can see distance 1.1 km picture is rather bad.

well, it's little beat strange, the picture. . . It must be taken from the aircraft that stand on runway, because the T-55 is in the same level like aircraft . . .

. . . hmm, I shell make the experiment :smartass: ! I will take picture of T-55 from approximate 1 km and let we see how it will look like . . . just give me couple of days.

(. . . I just hope that I will not be arrested by military police because of espionage :D . . .)

PS. thanks for the tip about the settings.

IMHO almost completely not.

c-moon, can't be so bad ! I admit that russian/soviet equipment can be very large and heavy but also it's very simple and efficient in use . . .

Merkurij successor IIRC Stolb pod has also been refused ;] Not without reason.

. . . although it's Skhval, every target is in range less than 3 Km ! ! ! The 3rd target is at the range at 3 km and it's completely unrecognized . . . So, the Mercury pod is probably even worse due to night conditions :cry: . . .

ok, you won !

. . . russians suck in opto-electronics . . . :cry:

. . . but that's the moment when the israely comes and do the upgrading . . . :P

Heh I'd like to see newer Russian equipment camera videos, but they're really as rarely as Shkval photos ;]

Israel? What upgrade?

Skorpion upgrade is practically dead.

MiG-35 is quite new hope it has sensors not only slighty better than Shkval :D

. . . this one is god :megalol: ! Watch out for the KGB or GRU . . . You might hurt their filings . . .

and for the Israeli, I want to say that they take piece of some equipment ("our" Mercury for instance), do the changes and modifications (reduce weight, increase range for spotting the targets . . .) and then sold again to us . . . :smilewink:

(I read how Israeli improved boom for AAR that was in service in USAFA and than Americans must paid for that modification :megalol: . . . )

. . . but any way,find that Russians already work on new opto-electronic systems (as Boberro mention . . . )

And ? Of course they must pay, it's an upgrade. Not like Israelis sold the exact same thing again. They improve something (and apparently, they are very good at upgrades, since they do quite a few of them recently), and sell something which is much better than the original product.

Probably, those who buy it estimate it would cost them more to improve the system themselves, or it wouldn't be up to par.
