GuntiNDDS Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 (edited) Did you retrim after engaging auto-hover ? Did come to a stop before engaging auto-hover ? Are you higher then 4 meters when engaging auto-hover ? Possibly you can post a trk-file for easier analysis. edit: also it is possible that after engaging auto-hover the helicopter cannot remain height and starts to sink if you do not provide enough collective input / use collective altitute assignment. Tangolima600 Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I noticed when doing an auto hover at takeoff even at 20-40m high I get a steep pitch back and the helicopter goes nuts. Sometimes it feels random where one attempt will work just fine and another I have to disengage immediately and try again. All attempts ares done at 10kph or below.

This sounds a bit asif maybe you are not imediatly retrimming after engaging auto-hover ?
cctoide Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I'm not sure, but it sounds like you're trying to engage auto-hover before the doppler system is fully online, since you say you're doing it right after takeoff. The doppler system is required for auto-hover. It takes a while to be available after starting, I think I read somewhere that it needs to get some returns (i.e. moving ground) before it starts working. IIRC, if you can't see your radio altitude in the HUD then the doppler system is not operational yet. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
shea1980 Posted June 22, 2010 Author Posted June 22, 2010 thanks Thanks guys i will give all your suggestions a go,and report back if i can get the chopper to hover, thanks guys [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Frederf Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 If the Doppler system isn't ready before you engage auto-hover the AP channel lights will blink. If they are solid then everything's fine. It makes a good check to see if that is what's happening.
