I suspect that most of his fans had no idea how fine a guitar player he was. Billy Gibbons ran into him in a restaurant/club a few years before he died and was stunned by how much he cared about the playing of the instrument.

 

Of course, you can't discuss Prince without this video.

Good points about Lady Gaga. These vids may have been the first time I actually saw her. ;)

 

Do a search. I am not a huge fan but duets with Sting and Elton John give you a great idea of her range and ability.

 

Elton John is another one of those amazing artists. The very first concert I ever attended was Elton John, around July 1976.

Btw, she says that she can not dance while playing until she has the playing perfect, and only then can she add the dancing.

I'm about as far from being a Prince fan as can be but after he died, and hearing a lot of talk of his guitar skills, I heard about the gEorge Harrison tribute he was a part of and came away with a bit more respect for him.

I almost posted that one as well. The fact that they gave the solo to him shows the respect that the others had for his skill. It is an amazing vid. You can even tell that George's son enjoyed and appreciated the skill he brought to that performance.

 

EDIT: Btw, there is an excellent 180 gram vinyl from that year, cut in purple vinyl in Prince's honor.

 

Yes, I still have a turntable and you really don't want to know what I paid for it.

Yeah he did kinda steal the show and I noticed that too how Georges son really seemed to enjot it.

 

I will confess to watching the 1999 video back in the day more than a few times. Mainly for the hot backup singers in the video tho.

Long Misty Days and Bridge of Sighs are two of my most favorite albums.

 

EDIT: That goes back to when this stuff was only available on vinyl. :D

 

 

He and Jeff Beck are my absolute favorite guitarists. Beck still is more impressive, to me, since he does not use a pick but just his thumb.

It made my day to see some vintage Trower footage too. Heard Bridge of Sighs on Pandora today at work and decided to You Tube him.

 

I f you haven't seen it I highly recommend Call of Cthulhu 2005. Made like an old-timey b/w movie by the H.P.Lovecraft Historical Society.

Before I saw the movie Drumliine, the first one, I had no idea that these type of teams existed. About a week ago I spent over an hour watching these guys and some of the other teams out there.

I won't try to explain Urzula, try Wikipedia. :D I discovered her about 35 years ago, which is what happens when you buy records in a small shop and they learn your tastes and start recommending stuff. :)

 

She was once married to Michael Urbaniak, who is another amazing electric violinist.

 

 

For many, she is an acquired taste. ;)
